Alone Time

Kaylee slowly walked into the shuttle and closed the door. She took off her jumpsuit and changed into a pair of long pants and a tanktop. She let out a tired sigh as she sat on her side of the bed. She reached onto the shelf near the bed and took out a book. Shepherd Book had given it to her just before he left Serenity. It had been almost as long since she had read it. She sat back against her pillows and began to read- taking advantage of the silence.

[Simon Tam]

Simon came into the shuttle to see Kaylee reading onthe bed, he recognised the book at once, Sheppard Book had given it to her before he left, and he walked over to the bed and sat down on the side before saying "Kaylee, whats wrong?" concern spreading over his face.

Kaylee looked up as Simon walked in. She placed the book upside down on her lap as he sat next to her. She could tell he was concerned. "I just- we haven't been able to spend much time together lately." She touched his hand lightly. "I don't know. We don't seem to have much alone time anymore." She looked down and traced the pattern on the blanket with her finger. "I know you're busy and you got work to do. I feel selfish because I know how hard you work and how much it takes out of you I just-" She sighed, "I don't know."

[Simon Tam]

"Kayle.." Simon started, but stopped. She was right, they hadnt spent much time together, alone, recently. "Kaylee, I love you, you know that, and you know that whenever the decision is mine to make, you will allways come first." he said, placing his hand on hers.

She smiled as she felt his hand on hers. "I know. I just-" She felt a little guilty for making feel bad as she knew he did. "I guess I just miss you." She looked in his eyes and smiled. She pulled herself toward him and kissed him deeply. She pulled away from him and smiled. "There's the man I know and love." She winked at him and sat back against her pillows.

[Simon Tam]

Simon smiled brightly at her, and kicked off his shoes, to lie down properly next to her. Reaching up with one hand to caress her cheek, he kissed her gently.

Kaylee smiled as he kissed her. She lowered herself so she was laying next to him- closer. She rested with her side against his and took his hand- never ceasing to smile. She let out a soft happy sigh; she couldn't remember the last time they were able to lay like this without having to sleep. "Are you more comfortable?"

[Simon Tam]

Simon looked up at the ceiling, still smiling. then, turning his head to face her he said "With you, Always."

She smiled and turned over. She rested her head on his chest and put an arm around his waist. "Well that's a relief." She said chuckling to herself.

Simon simply smiled and kissed Kaylee in the top of her head.

Kaylee smiled as she felt Simon kiss her head. This was her favorite feeling- being in the arms of her husband. She wished it never had to end. She closed her eyes and smiled. She squeezed him slightly for a moment. "I love you." She said releasing him a little; still keeping her arm over his stomach.

Simon

Simon looked at Kaylee when she said that, he still loved to hear her say it and whispered back to her "I love you too." smiling at her.

Kaylee closed her eyes and smiled. She never tired of hearing Simon say he loved her. She decided she could fall asleep right there- she wished she could stay that way forever. She opened her eyes and glanced at the clock.

"Wow- it's so late." She frowned. She hated to admit it- but she knew they had to get some sleep if they were going to be of any use the next day. She turned over and pulled the blanket over her and closed her eyes. She laid there a moment when she realized it had been quiet all night- no one had come in or out of the shuttle. She turned back to Simon, "Where are the kids?" She asked sitting up. "I didn't hear either of them come in." She took another look at the clock. "Can you find them and tell them they need to get to bed? It's too late for them to be up and around the ship." She placed a hand on Simon's arm and smiled. She hated to make him get up- but she was weary of wandering around the ship at night- even if she knew they were alone.

Simon

Simon sighed, but smiled and kissed Kaylee and sat up slowly and swung his legs overt the side of the bed and put his shoes back on. Standing up, he walked over to the door of the shuttle and pressed the hatch button and stepped through after saying "Il be right back."

She smiled as he kissed her. She felt bad for sending him out- but she knew he didn't mind that much. She knew if she tried to sleep it would take too long and naturally as soon as she fell asleep she knew the shuttle hatch would wake her up when Simon returned- plus she wanted to say goodnight to Daniel and Haven. She pulled herself up farther and prepared to read a few more pages her in book. She opened the book and her bookmark fell out. She picked it up and rubbed her finger on it a few times. She remembered when Shepherd Book left- everyone knew she was upset. When he gave her the book- he had also given her a small braid of what she thought must have been horsehair. It was black and gray with some streaks of red braided through. She always thought of him when she saw it. It was similar to one he used to wear in his hair before he left the ship. She shook the thoughts from her head after a few minutes and continued to read.
