Lookign For A Ship

[Arabella Hart]

Bella walked out of her small motel. She was hoping some new ships came in looking for a cook. Bella had been without work for almost three months now. Sighing, she made her way to the docks, hoping someone new had come.

Looking up, she blocked her eyes from the sun gleaming off the ships. Smiling, she remembered the first time she flew and felt that rush again. Her charm bracelet glittered in the light as she heard it tinkle with the charms hitting against one another. Picking up her skirt, she twisted her hand about it a bit, wanting to chose the ship carefully. I never want to go through that hell again, Bella thought as she saw some men staring. Walking past a bit, she found a bench and sat upon it to wait a few more minutes.

River was walking around planet side since she couldn't stay on Serenity without her brother worrying. She scanned the people in the area to make sure she wouldn't have to fight any of them. She was also looking for candidates to join the ship. She wasn't sure Mal was going to approve of her doing so but she decided she could always talk Mal into it later. She caught on to the the thoughts of a girl that seemed to have some problems.

'I never want to go through that hell again' that was what River heard. River quickly found the source of the thought. She knew the girl was a cook and was talented at it. River also knew that Serenity's crew needed an actual meal or something that tasted like actually food. River walked up to the source of the thoughts and smiled. River knew her skinny lithe frame and just how she was built didn't make her seem at all threatening but she was probably the most dangerous thing you would ever run into.

River noticed the men that were staring. River scanned them and found them to be a threat if they came her way or toward this girl that River was trying to recruit and befriend. She decided that she would attack them.

"Mind if I join you" asked River with a smile

Bella looked at the girl. She was pretty and looked harmless. She smiled and shook her head. “No I don’t. Company is always nice.” Moving over some, she motioned for the girl to sit. Bella didn’t know who this girl was, or where she was from, but she’d rather have someone beside her with those men.

It had been awhile since Haven had actually talked to someone to talk to. Whenever she worked on a new ship, Bella tended to remain hidden because the ships didn’t have girls on them. “You from around here?”

"I am not from here I am on a 03-K64 Firefly-class mid-bulk transport with a standard radion accelerator core" said River

She looked at the girl and then back at the men, she knew the girl thought she looked harmless but River knew appearances could be decieving. River took a seat beside the girl she gave her a smile.

"I am River Tam" said River "And who are you"

River was wording things simpler than she normally did but she didn't want to scare the girl. River kept her mind scanning the men but her attention mostly on the girl in front of her. River got hit with some of her own memories pretty hard but she pushed them to the back of her mind. River drew her knees up to her chest she was still barefoot and that Mal was probably going to have a fit with her later.

Bella was impressed that the girl knew so much about the ship she was flying on. Bella knew barely anything about most of the ship she’d flown on. “I don’t know too much about ships, but that sounds pretty impressive.”

Bella turned her back to the men. She got uncomfortable around groups of men after what she’d been through. “I’m Arabella Hart-but my friends call me Bell.” River seemed to have noticed the men, but Bella wanted to just blow them off if she could. Biting her lip, she decided to ask if maybe they were looking for a cook.

“Um, River I have a question for you. Is your ship looking for a cook? I make meals when there is plenty of produce, but I know how to work around the protein and mixing it with spare bits of pasta and what-nots.” Bella always tried to make a good impression for a prospective new job. In the background, she heard the faint rumble of some kidn of motor, but didn’t dare look behind her. All she was hoping is that maybe the Firefly-class ship had a spot for a cook.

Hearing many footsteps behind her, Bella braced her back and closed her eyes. The memories of the last ship she rode on came over her and she shook a bit.

"Sorry about the technical talk, the captain Malcolm Reynolds doesn't remember any of that" said River "We could use a cook, Mal and the rest of the crew would like a meal that isn't just protein that is every color of the rainbow."

River heard the foot steps. She had a gun strapped to her thigh just incase some one would attack. River wasn't afraid of them that was for sure. River felt Bell's memories and tried to keep her calm demeanor to her so she wouldn't scare the girl.

"The ship is called Serenity, don't call it anything. It was named after the Battle of Serenity on Hera. I hope you don't mind flying with brown coats. Mal and the first mate Zoe fought against the Alliance in the war and they aren't keen on having alliance supporters on board." said River

River kept herself scanning the men the foot steps were not a comforting sound right now. She was ready to attack the men if necessary but she was hoping to avoid that scenario.

"Don't worry you will not be the only woman on board" said River knowing that that was going to give away her ablity as a reader. "There is my sister in law and our mechanic Kaylee, our companion Inara Serra, first mate Zoe Allyene Washburne, my niece Haven, and myself you will be quite at home there I promise"

River knew Mal was probably going to have her head for this. If he could catch her to get her head anyway.

Bella was beaming about the prospect of a job-and there being some female companionship. “I won’t let the crew down-unless I’m dying.” Bella felt like throwing that bit out there.

Listening to River, the ship sounded interesting. She shook her head. “My parents were browncoats, but my grandmother, who raised me, was Alliance.” Bella shrugged. “Right now I’m in limbo. I don’t agree with the Alliance at all, believe that; but my grandmother raised me under Alliance ways so I feel like I have to at least acknowledge them.” Bella didn’t know how to explain it very well without digging extremely deep into her past and that wasn’t something she did often. “I dunno if you understand what I mean or not.”

“But I like that name Serenity. It may be after a battle, but it has double meaning.” Bella felt a tap on her shoulder and looked back. All of the men were behind her, asking if she wanted to join their ship. Bella just shook her head at looked away, but the man peaking was insistent. Her hands shook as memories crawled over her.

((OOC: Just so you know, in Vincent’s post he mentioned something about this. He should be posting shortly to come rescue me and find a way on the ship if you want to hold up or not. Thought I’d let you know. Stay shiny!))

Vincent looked amazed when he saw none other than River Tam walk over and sit down next to this young woman. This caused Vincent to ponder the reasons as to why River would be sitting next to her or why Serenity would be here in the first place.

The men were starting to become more interested in the young woman, so Vincent slowly began to make his way over to her. He tried to keep out of site as best as he could as a not to ruin the element of surprise.

River picked up on Vincent but didn't say anything about him. She knew he liked his surprises, and at the moment she was hoping he would help them because she didn't want to scare Bella away. River tensed up with the men there she wasn't in the mood to fight. She silently pleaded with Vincent to hurry up and come and help them but she would fight if she needed to. River could feel Bella's memories and they weren't pleasant it made her skin crawl. River looked up at the men and took a deep breath.

Dave walked past the two women, and kept on walking until he was within earshot of Vincent, upon wich he leant against the wall, cross-armed and asked
"You know those two?"
he shot a sideways glance at the man, and looked over to the two women, noticing the group of men watching them.

Bella looked at River and mouther the words, "Do you want to go?" Bella wasn't going to tell no one, but the last ship she was one, she was raped and she hated groups of men like this. The men kept on insisting on her joining the ship. When Bella told them she had a job, they made a snide comment about River. Bella didn't have the courage to say much, so she just stood up to try and leave.

But that plan didn't work well. One man grabbed her arm and tried taking her with him. Bella kept shaking cause the memories were bad and everywhere again.

seeing the man grab her, Dave reached to his waist and drew his pistol, leaving his rifle strapped to his hold-all, and glanced at Vincent, "you gonna just stand there, or are you gonna help those two?" Dave asked him.

Upon seeing one of the men grab the young woman, Vincent lept into action. He ran towards the man who held the woman and perform a heel kick right into his jaw and knocked him out cold. He then kicked the second man in the back of his knees to send to ground and then kicked him right in the face, breaking the man's nose.

Vincent stood up straight and began to walk towards the third man. He removed his sunglasses to reveal his menacing red eyes. He withdrew the short sword he kept concealed under his overcoat. Vincent just glared at the man as if to say 'leave now or I will kill you.'

River had stood up and was ready to fight. The snide comment said about her was forgotten her friend needed help. As far as they knew she was helpless but River still had a few tricks up her sleeve. She looked at Vincent and took a deep relaxing breath so that she would calm down. She had definitely gotten better since Miranda, but she wasn't 100% just yet she could still be triggered by certain things.

"Thank you Vincent" said River

She felt Bella's memory about being raped and went over to her and put a hand on her shoulder.

"You have nothing to fear anymore" said River "We shall go converse with Mal about your employment onto Serenity, Vincent you are welcome to join us"

River realized how hurt Bella was and it reminded her of the Alliance Academy, of course Vincent being there didn't help. River wanted to help this young woman escape her demons just as she had. River's memories of the Academy hit her really hard and she wanted to scream. She bit back the scream and tried to think of happier memories. She eventually got her mind on to Shepherd Book. He was a comforting thought to her.

Bella stood there shortly confused. Pulling back form the new man and the group, she was taken aback. River seemed to know him and called him Vincent. Nodding she looked to Vincent when he was done. “Are you ok?” Looking at the men, Bella was glad that they got what they deserved.

Turning to River thoughts ran through her head. She was confused. “River, how do you know about me not liking groups of men?” Bella was a rather naive girl when it came to certain topics. This girl is extraordinary, ran through Bella’s mind. She racked her brain, trying to figure out when she had said anything about not liking groups of men. Nodding, she waited to follow River and Vincent to the ship.
