Daniel finished connecting the last wire, he looked up to see Jay waiting. "Hey Jay. Nah, you came at the right time. I just finished actually." Daniel got up and looked on as his father left, "Back-up? What does he think I'm backing-up? How am I supposed to back you up if I don't know what I'm doing?" His father had really gotten to him. Daniel felt as though he was just being toyed with until his father grills him about what he said to Haven.

Jay laughed. He couldn't help it at the moment. With the others slight hysterics. "Back-up huh. Would be nice, but I've got it. Unless you care to learn what everything does." He sat down in his usual spot and turned the chair around, giving Daniel a small smile. He'd seen everyone leave before he'd gotten here.

He hadn't even had a chance to do anything but nod as Simon had wandered out already. "Don't worry your dad's just picking on you. Theres nothing you really need to do." Shrugging his shoulders he turned around in his chair, looking at the control console. "I assume everything's fixed up so I can take her off?"

"Yeah, everythings taken care of." Daniel slouched on the chair opposite. "Haven picking on me is bad enough. I don't need my own father joining in on the act." He started to think about what he's going to say at dinner. It was a delicate situation, he had to say it at the right time and use the right words. He decided to seek Jay's advice in the matter. Jay was like a brother to him, Daniel trusted him more than anyone. "I need your advice. We have some new guests on board. Among them is this...girl that I'm...interested in."

[Captain Malcolm Reynolds]

Mal walked into the bridge. Looking at the boys, he stood there a moment, listening to them chit chat. "Hey! My boat needs to be in the air now. We could have half the Alliance on us any minute." He had heard Daniel say something about a girl.

Soften, he looked at him. "What's up with you and this new cook. Your sister is running around telling us all about how your already locking lips with her?" He was surprised, happy and worried all at once. What was up with Daniel?

Once again Daniel was embarrassed by what had happened between him and Bella. He was hoping to ease his way in to telling everyone, but that wasn't possible any more now that his sister had taking it upon herself to blurt it out to anyone who would listen. "Well...I um...the thing is...we were just talking, I told her she should do what felt right. Later on we talked again and she kissed me and, I...wasn't exactly opposed to it. We was gonna tell you all at dinner."

Inara stepped onto the Bridge just as Daniel was trying to defend himself.

Stepping past Mal, in which she lightly grazed her fingers over his shoulder as she passed, she wrapped her arm around Daniel's shoulders.

"Don't you stand there and defend yourself Daniel, you certainly did nothing wrong, your sister is just that...your sister, so ignore her for the most part."

With a look at Mal to tell him to stop badgering the poor boy she stated: "I personally think you and Bella are beautiful together."

Jay had been sitting in the chair about ready to reply when Mal had come in. Shortly after he'd heard about Bella. So there was a new girl here Daniel happened to like. Things would get interesting after all. Smiling he turned the chair around and pushed the button to talk to everyone. "Please get seated, and lock yourselves in. We're about ready for take off."

Turning back around he grinned. "We're heading up in the air in a moment." Flicking a few of the switches on the control panel and placing his hands on the wheel he looked back. "You might want to strap in too."

“I’m not mad at him. Just curious about all this.” He smiled at Daniel. “Just be careful with her past.” Looking at Inara, he shrugged, before going to sit in the opposite chair. “Just do everything in private ok? I don’t want to stumble upon you.”

Turning to Jay now, he went, “Do I ever strap in son?” He was joking now. He barely if ever strapped in unless for a rough landing. He just sat and waited. Looking at them all, eh went, “Anything new since my immediate departure?”

Daniel just smiled back at Inara, "Thanks Inara. Its nice to know that someone on this boat doesn't find this questionable. Haven's probably just jealous that I've found someone." It wouldn't surprise Daniel if she was. It always seemed that she'd be first to find someone, she was after all the most sociable out of the three kids. Daniel couldn't help be laugh when Jay told them to strap in, "Jay, the day we strap in will be the day Serenity mets its untimely end. Besides with mods I've done, she'll fly soother than she's ever done in recent years."

Inara kissed Daniel on his forehead before moving to find a seat, then a thought dawned on her and she changed her mind.

With a flourish of her skirts, she plopped herself down right in Mal's lap and threw her arms around his shoulders "oh save me Captain!" she cried in mock horror. She was teasing Jay, but also Mal in the process, two for one wasn't bad and it'd probably make Daniel laugh so there was three. No she hadn't lost her touch at all.

Jay had to roll his eyes and turn his chair back around. "Yeah yeah." Looking over at Inara he grinned. "Hey! I'm not that bad of a pilot thank you." Sighing he flicked a few more switched and took the controls. "Ready for lift off." Laughing quietly he pulled the ship from the ground and set off.

Maybe Daniel was right. Mal and Inara seemed to be as well. New passengers needed to be held with caution. You never knew what you could get.

Mal hugged Inara to him and laughed. "I'll save you form the evil flying machine!" The ride did feel smoother. He was proud of Daniel's modifications. Looking at Daniel, he kept glancing at Inara. "Haven is jealous that you may have found someone steady. Is she fed?"

Then he turned to Jay, having to nuzzle Inara doing so. But that wasn't so bad. "No. Just like your old man. Once in space we can all eat." He looked at Inara, setting his chin on her shoulder. "Wanna help me tlak to this new cook? I wanted ot before dinner and I have a feeling either way, I'll have a crowd."

Inara turned her head to look down at Mal as he asked her to accompany him and nodded.

"I'll glad come with you, Bella is a sweetheart, you'll love her." Inara stated, yet she made no move to get off Mal's lap. She was rather comfy, and didn't want to ruin the moment.

Daniel always liked it when Inara made fun of Mal, it made a change from him being made fun of. It wasn't uncommon for Mal and Inara to make fun of one another. When he was younger, he had often wondered why Mal and Inara weren't together. He still wonders that now. Moments like this prove that they like each other well enough. "Inara's right Mal. You'll like Bella well enough. She's had a hard life so she might be a bit hesitant at first."

Jay smirked to himself, watching the cap and Inara. Now that was a sight. "Yeah save her." Smiling at the comment about his old man he looked to space. His dad. He'd never even gotten a chance to meet the man. Steadily the ship rose to a higher altitude, settling itself in the air. He didn't say anything after that. Not really.

Just a soft and quiet "old man.." And then he was done talking. He didn't look as happy as he had before. Looking to Daniel he smiled a bit. The modifications had done the ship well. It was a much easier ride now. Much easier lift off the ground as well. Maybe he had some talent after all.
