Work, Work, Work

Although Daniel didn't usually work on the bridge, he still knew all the systems well enough to do all the necessary repairs. He took off his overcoat, tie and his pinstripe shirt. He rolled up his sleeves and began to do some minor re-wiring under the co-pilot's console.

Haven walkd into the bridge, watching her brother. Crossing her arms, she looked at him. He was a smart kid, but sometimes kind of dumb in her eyes.

Plopping down next to him, she laid back. "So, when someone cares for another Daniel, they should be able to tell the other they were a git." She nudged him, kind of serious, but kind of joking. "And back there, you were a git."

River silently walked onto the bridge unnoticed by Haven and Daniel. She smiled at Haven picking on her brother in some ways it reminded her of herself and Simon. River was a brat okay she still was a brat when it came to Simon but that was beyond the point. River did things like Haven was doing but usually didn't last like this when it came to Simon and Kaylee. She was usually crazy and couldn't say very much that made sense.

Daniel was a little startled when Haven came in. He too busy concentrating on his work to notice her arrive, plus he wasn't expecting her to follow him. Daniel just about managed to understand what Haven was on about, it was clear that he had done something wrong. "Hey, do mind tellin' me what I've done before resorting to name calling?"

Haven reached up to hold some frayd wires, careful not to get close to the edges. "Well, Bella needed ot be drawn out of her shell. And seeing as there is a connection with you two, I think you should have been the one to do so." Haven didn't know why he was so clueless with girls. He obviously turned Bella's head, who seemed not to trust any guy.

Daniel quickly re-connected all the wires he was working on. He had a feeling this could go on for a while. He came up from under the console and gave a slightly sad look to his sister, "I know...I know why she's untrusting of guys, why she has that 'shell' of hers. And, aside for what could happen with me, being a cook is the only good thing going for her. I can't take that away from her, whether she's in a shell or not."

Haven was confused. Haven didn't know the whole story, so it wasn't like she could say tha tmuch. "i didn't say take away cooking. I said draw her out. Big difference." Haven came up as well. Lookign she had a sad look as well.

"Can you tell me what happened?"

"Sorry sis, misunderstanding. What I meant to say is that we should let her get settled in first. Allow her to feel comfortable before getting her to open up to everyone." Daniel knew Haven was only trying to help, in this situation he actually appreciated it what with his lack of experience. He briefly thought about telling Haven what Bella told him but due to the nature of what she told him, he decided not to, "I-I probably shouldn't. Its not the sort of thing you want to tell people about. It was hard enough for her to tell me."

Haven wanted to know why Bella could tell Daniel, but not her? It was weird seeing as Haven was the first to meet her. She actually smiled at him. "I underestimated you. You have gotten through to her." But Haven still wanted to know. "Well, if she told you , obviously she will tell people."

Daniel couldn't believe what Haven just said, "Is that prase I'm hearing from you? Who are you and what have you done with my sister?" Daniel chuckled to himself for a moment, and then he just remembered what they were talking about. "Ok, I'll talk to her. There's not that much to do here so I'll just quickly finish, then I'll go." Daniel went back under the console to quickly finish off the re-wiring.

Haven sighed. She wanted to fight, but this was up to him. Huffind she slumped. "Fine. Brat." Sticking her tongue out, she looked and saw River. Smiling she stood back up. "How long ahev you been there?"

Daniel raised his voice, not so much that he would be shouting but just so that he was talking loud, "Its not gonna take five minutes." He started to talk to himself and carry on working at the same time, "Honestly, you girls are all mental. Can't get a minutes piece without doing something wrong in your eyes." He finished off the last few conections and came out from under the console, "There, that didn't take long now, did it? Oh, hi Aunt River. How long you been standing there?" Daniel had to ask because he wasn't sure if she had been there long enough to have heard his 'mental' comment or not.

Haven had only been joking. His flip out was not needed. "Hey! I'm not mental! Just because I have hormones and feelings doesn't mean anything. Sometimes I don't know if you have feelings! You jsut act all mopey and depressed. Maybe things will change now."

Secretly, Haven hoped River would get mad. There was no need for him to add the 'mental part'. None at all. This was ridiculos with him and she was mad. Moving, she sat in the chair opposite him and crossed her arms in anger and frustration.

"Long enough" said River was a little bit mad at Daniel "Daniel"

River knew just how she'd said his name would be enough to get her point across.

"I thought Simon had a talk with you about calling people mental" said River

She took offense to it because it was partially true for her. She wasn't fond of the word before that though either.

Daniel was afraid of this. Looking a little guilty and upset, "S-sorry aunt River, sorry Haven. You know I didn't mean it like that. I know dad told us not to say it, but it....just sort of....slipped out." Daniel could bare to look River in the eye, doing so would have made this more difficult than it already was. "May I be excused please?"
