The New Arrivals

Seeing that everyone was being taken care of, Inara had things to do, so she slipped away, climbing up the catwalk to her Shuttle.

Once inside she closed the door, a sign to everyone that she didn't want to be disturbed. It had been established early on, back when she was still taking on more Clients, that when her door was open anyone could come in, but when it was closed they needed to knock first and it had better be important.

Kaylee walked into the cargo bay and passed River and one of the new arrivals. She was a young girl, around Haven and Daniel's age. As she went farther in. She spotted Inara going to her shuttle, and hearing the door close, she knew Inara wanted to be alone. She walked over to where Simon, Jayne, the children, and one of the new passangers stood. She walked up to Simon and took his hand.

"Hey guys, did I miss anything good?" she asked with a wink. She looked to the new passanger and extended her hand. "I'm Kaylee, I keep Serenity healthy." She said with a smile.

[Haven Tam]

Haven scrunched up her face in thought before going next to her brother. “I’m going to the shuttle for a bit-to think.” Leaning in to whisper in her brother’s ear, she whispered, “You know, you looked just like dad in that moment.” Running off, Haven hugged her mother as she headed for the shuttle.

[Arabella Hart]

Bella picked up her stuff. Before picking up her last bag, she reached out her hand to shake Kaylee’s. “Bella.” Bella had decided to stop telling everyone her full name for now. She just needed out of the cargo bay. Nodding to Kaylee, she gave Daniel another small smile, something she hadn't down to a guy in a long while. As she moved swiftly with some slight grace up the catwalk to follow River, Bella, felt like she had made a slight breakthrough. All from teh help of her new friend.

Daniel saw the smile that Bella gave him and his face went bright red. He tried to smile back but he just looked away from her in embarrassment. After Bella left, he looked round at everyone else in the cargo bay and said "Tell me the truth........how bad was it?"

Kaylee shook Bella's hand as she passed and hid a smile at the glances passed between her son and the new passanger. She hugged Haven as she passed on her way to the shuttle. Once Bella was gone, she looked to Daniel.

"How bad was what?" She asked curiously, figuring by his redness that it had something to do with Bella.

Daniel looked to his mother "How stupid did I look in front of her? I think she likes me but I think I might of scared her off a bit." Thinking back to what Haven said to him as she left, and realization of what she said only just caught up to him. "Oh god," he buried his head in his hand when saying this. "Haven said i looked liked dad just now. She's right isn't she?"

[Haven Tam]

Haven bounced back into the cargo bay. Watching from the cat walk she spotted her brother-and his famous red face. Running down the stairs, she shouted, "You choked little brother. Big time. But you didn't scare her away." Stopping between her mother and her brother, she smiled. "From the way River sounded, Bella has a problem trusting all men at this moment." Shrugging, she was confused. "Beats me why though."

Pulling the picture from behind her back, she brushed her fingers along it. "Hey, mom I made this. Do you think Mal would let me put it up in the kitchen?" She held the photo out to her mother for her reaction, nudging her brother in the arm.

Kaylee smiled at Daniel. "Well...remember who you're talking to? I'm the one who fell for your father, remember? You did remind me of him just then, but don't you worry it's not a bad thing." She glanced to her husband for a moment, before she turned to see Haven coming down from the shuttle.

A look of disappointment crossed her face as Haven teased her brother. "Haven! Don't tease your brother like that. Daniel I think its great that you've found an interest in someone." Kaylee said as Haven came up beside her and mentioned the fact that Bella had trust issues with men. "I think once she gets to know you, everything will be fine." She gave him a motherly wink and a smile as Haven pulled a picture from behind her back. "Oh Haven, thats beautiful!" She took the picture in her hand for a better look. "I don't think he'll have a problem with it. It would still be better to ask him though." She said handing the picture back to her daughter.

Kaylee walked closer to Simon and took his hand. "I think its lunch time." She said smiling to him. She looked at the others standing near them, "is anyone else hungry? I can make us a quick lunch then it's back to work." She said glancing at Daniel with an emphasis on 'work'. She smiled, waiting for someone to reply.

"Thanks mom, that helps. And don't worry about Haven," Daniel began to look quite smug and started to pace around his sister. "I think in her own...strange and...disturbing way...she's only trying to help out," Daniel clearly appreciated Haven telling him that he hadn't scared her off. He began to walk away from his sister, "Besides, at least i have an interest unlike some people," he glanced over his shoulder back at Haven to see how she would react. It wasn't everyday that Daniel had an interest when Haven didn't.

[OOC: Don't worry Kaylee. I think we're letting it slide what with 2 of the characters in the post are away and another hasn't posted for some time.]

Haven kept turning her head to stare her brother down. He was being all high and mighty now that Bella was gone. Crossing her arms, she raised one eyebrow. "Well, my dear brother, I didn't want to hog all your spot light. I did get a moment to talk before out dear aunt took her away. After all," she smirked before continuing, "I wasn't the one stammering with my words."

Haven and her brother did this dance often. They had fun picking on each other and this was not unusual for them. Looking at her mother she shook her head. "I'm not very hungry. I had something small earlier."

Kaylee watched her children pace around each other. It was no use scolding them. It was normal. they weren't hurting each other anyway, so she figured she'd let it slide. "I know someday you two will grow up." She said jokingly, winking at them so they knew. She watched Haven hake her head and turn down her offer for food; she shrugged. "Alright then, Daniel? Are you hungry? If you don't ant anything to eat then we may as well get back to work." She said touching her son's arm as he passed her in his 'dance' with Haven. She smiled again, thankful that her children had a good enough relationship to know how to tease each other playfully without actually hurting one another.

No matter how hard Daniel tried, Haven always seemed to get the better of him in their little 'dances'. "Well yeah but," with no come back, Daniel admitted defeat "gorram it. One of these days sis, I'm gonna think of somethin' that you won't be able to come back from."

He looked back to his mother "Don't worry mom, we're plenty grown up. Besides, Aunt River still picks on dad." Daniel began to concoct a plan to get himself and Bella alone together. Then he could talk to her without feeling too much pressure. He just needed time to prepare himself "Yeah, sure mom. A little snack before work never hurt."

[Haven Tam]

Haven smiled in triumph. Wiggling her eyebrows, she went, "Ha! the day you beat me is the day I can't breathe no more." Haven really was curious about Bella though. Her aunt took her away so fast that she didn't get much talking time. Besides, it was rare to have another girl her own age on board. Often times it was new men who were hired. Now, she did want to steal her away from River though. "Hey ma, can I steal Danny away for just a tad bit longer?"

Thinking a moment, she realized Mal had not come back yet. "Hey mom, dad, where is Mal? He went out awhile ago and he's running really late." Mal never ran this late without a warning or a good excuse-like he was hurt or captured.

"Don't you worry none about the captain. I'm sure he's fine. He probably just got caught up with something, you know how he is." Kaylee said reassuringly to Haven, brushing a few stray hairs from her face. "Besides, if somethin' were wrong we'd know by now. Jayne would be off helpin the cap'n out of it right now." She said with a wink.

Kaylee smiled when Daniel agreed to have a snack before getting back to work. "Good, I'm glad you're going to eat something. you're too skinny!" Kaylee smiled at him, knowing Daniel would sense that she was only teasing him, no matter how true it seemed even if only slightly. She became a little disappointed when Haven asked to take him away, but she knew it wouldn't be for long. "Well...alright. But only for a few minutes. When you're done, just meet me in the kitchen so we can eat then get back to work." Kaylee said kissing Simon's cheek, making her way toward the back staircase to go up to the kitchen. "If the rest of you are hungry, feel free to come on into the kitchen and I'll make enough for all of us." She said smiling. She got all the way up the stairs and turned around while on the catwalk directing her attention to Haven and Daniel, "no more than fifteen minutes. We got work to do."
