Solstice's arrival

Solstice had felt River reach out to her, they were always able to do that with each other. They were the two most psychic people at the academy so they had the ability to reach each other. River was letting her know Serenity was near. Solstice got to the outside of the ship she was going to wait for River to give her the go ahead to get onto Serenity. Solstice wasn't sure wasn't sure how that was going to work out. She got to the outside of Serenity and waited.

Vincent went off to get the cash he had save up. He knew it would be safe for him to do so. All banks were the same, cameras, guards always in the exact same place. He could easily keep his face covered. The Alliance was always so predictable. He stopped into a jewlery store on his way back and got a proper engagement ring for River as well as a pair for them both. Now he just needed to give money to River so she could buy a dress and the rest can be spent on other things.

He got back to the ship and waited for River's friend. Hopefully, if they are in fact psychic has he believes, they won't read too far into his past.

Solstice saw Vincent, she read into him and saw allot of River's face there. She stayed out of view of the cameras and followed him. She watched him go into a jewelry store. She followed him to the ship. Once he was there and she was sure that no one would see her, she attacked him. She wasn't sure why she did but she attacked him.

Vincent heard the girl lunge towards him. He just barely managed to block her attacks. She was good, really good, River esque good. She must be the friend River spoke about. Once he stopped her attacks, he began to speak to her, "Your good little one, really good. Would you be Solstice by any chance? I believe your a friend of River Tam."

"No I'm not going back you can't make me, you can't please don't, they are in my head and they won't leave they're all there everything some real some not some are mine some are others I can't don't please" said Solstice

She calmed down suddenly.

"River where's River" said Solstice.

Her blond hair was in her face. She looked up with him with really big, frightened eyes afraid of what he could do.

"I didn't do it I didn't run away, I was saved they're not here anymore they got him killed him made him go away, they're trying to find me they did things so many things they hurt him didn't lay a finger on him but they hurt, didn't touch killed him with a device, made his brain bleed no pain no hurt just blood so much blood. all around they hurt him they hurt him. They want and they want her and nothing will stop it" said Solstice breaking down into tears.

Vincent started to size up Solstice. She was definately well trained. She could have been as good as River was, but something about her was different. "River is on the ship. I would advise that you wait a while. Our captain isn't in the mood for any more surprises." Solstice was indeed as traumatised as River was when he first met her. He had to reasure Solstice that he wasn't a threat to her, "Don't worry. I won't send you back to the Academy. You're River's friend. River is more than a friend to me. She's my wife. Search my mind if you must. You'll find the truth."

When she started crying, he when over and put his arms around her. "Its ok. Your with friends now. Your safe."

She cried in his arms panicking still. She searched his mind and found River in there allot.

"No more, I can't it won't work the input doesn't match what comes out, different, broken, hurt to broken to be fixed can't be won't be shouldn't be" said Solstice still crying "Just broken to many pieces can't be fixed not ever to broken"

Vincent held her close to him. He had done this many times for River, so hopefully it'll work for Solstice. "Shh, shh. It'll be ok little one. River has changed so much since you last saw her. And you'll be the same in time. Look closely at her. You'll see that she is um....full of life, as it were." Vincent figured it would be alright to drop hints about River's pregnancy. She was psychic, she was bound to sense it eventually.

Solstice was still crying. She realize what Vincent was getting at. She wasn't as strong as River was River was different from the rest. She was close to it very close, just a step behind River. Solstice twitched a little in Vincent's arms. She was still crying from everything going on around her.

"I can't I can't they broke it they broke the girl no longer a human weapon dangerous shouldn't be put a bullet to me bullet in the brain pan squish" said Sosltice still crying. "No human they took that part away took everything made it different dangerous bad, things secrets, lies, nothing anyone wants or needs, pain"

Solstice was crying all over again unable to stop.

This was going to be difficult. River has always had someone to help her, be it himself, Simon, Kaylee, Inara or anyone else on Serenity. Where as Solstice didn't have anyone to help her, until now. "Your still human. Your just broken. The mind is a fragile thing, easily damaged, but it can be fixed. Don't worry. River and I will keep you safe, help you get better."

"They broke the human, theres no human left to be just parts piece, to small to put back together but big enough to make a mess" said Solstice "They replace real memories with secrets lies things that weren't supposed to be big mess of string but pull one out it destroys the others"

She was starting to hyperventilate while standing in Vincent's arms she tried to find something familiar and comforting.

"She's not like this anymore, not broken, she's human again understood and comprehended, believed and trusted. loved" said Solstice.

"The mind is like a puzzle. A big, complex puzzle with many small pieces, but a puzzle none the less. It will take time, months maybe years, but eventually enough of the pieces will be put back together. Then you'll be able to start living like a person again."

When she started to hyperventilate, he held her head against his chest. It worked for River before, so it was worth a chance, "There there. Just focus on my breathing, on my heart beat, on my feelings for River. Focus on those and nothing else."

She calmed down a little bit hearing his heart beat and feeling what he felt for River. Solstice was still crying though unable to make herself stop. She didn't know whether is was relief or pain that she was crying about. Stood with her head against his chest and she felt sate for the first time since she went to the academy she felt safe and wanted.

"Just keep breaking people, they will and they do so much screaming, never silent pain suffer, taking away bits and pieces" said Solstice "Law of psychics for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction. They broke us and now we break them they change us make us do what they want"

A small smile came over Vincent's face. It looked as though Solstice was feeling better. He was quite surprised by it actually. He expected that River managed to do so well was because that she loved him and she was just happy to be this close to him. Apparently this wasn't the case. "You know you sound a lot like River. I'm not surprised you two were friends in that place. The law is true though, but there is an element in the equation that you haven't considered. What happens when an aspect of the first action, breaks off and fights back?"

"Then it's broken can't work any more, it changes what comes out makes it what it was not longer a reaction just the parts that make the reaction, just action but no reaction, it can't work because everything has a reaction even if a part breaks off and fights there is still and equal and opposite reaction the other part fights as well" said Solstice.

She looked at Vincent again. Her mind was scattered everywhere and she could feel what Vincent felt for River and vice versa and it calmed her down allot, if River was okay Solstice figured she would be okay.
