Vincent just looked at Solstice, completely confused. Smart as she was, she had clearly missed the point of exactly what he was trying to say. "Right? I think you've missed the point. For a mind-reading genius, you ain't that smart. I was just saying that I used to work for the Alliance and now I'm working to fight against them." Vincent felt he had to be honest about this. If she found out about it the hard way then that would only cause more trouble.

She closed her eyes still crying. She couldn't see through her cloud of smoke.
"She understands, but doesn't comprehend" said Solstice
She was a little worried about what would happen to her.

Vincent had heard River say those words many times. "Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I fight the Alliance in order to protect people like you. Everyone on this ship is running from something. We all protect each other. If your on the ship, we'll all protect you."

She just stared at him with a look that no one could read. She wanted to be safe and she wanted to be protected but she wasn't sure that they could do it.
"River" said Solstice calming down
Solstice wanted to see her friend and be with her friend but she had no idea what would happen to her.

Vincent looked down and smiled at Solstice. It looked as though she was feeling a lot better now. She had stopped crying for starters. "You feeling better now?" Vincent quickly went over and took a peak into the cargobay. Mal was still there, and so was Dave and Gene. They would have to wait a little longer. He went back to Solstice, "So, how long have you been out then?"

Solstice knew exactly when he got out but if she told Vincent that the way things were wouldn't ever be easy for her.

Vincent took another peek inside. There were still people in there, but at least Mal had left. "Ok, its safe to go in now. If anyone asks, just say that your a friend of mine. For the time being, just pretend this is the first time you've met River when around everyone else. They might suspect something otherwise." While holding Solstice's hand, Vincent led her into the cargo bay.
