Vincent entered is old room. It was exactly as he left it 5 years ago. The room had numerous decorations on the walls ranging from tribal markings, weapons and religious scriptures. Being in a room that he decorated himself made him feel at peace. He began to unpack the things he brought with him.

When Vincent finished unpacking and putting his gear away, he realised that he needs to contact his ship to let then know what was going on. Maybe he could get them to dig up any dirt on the mystery guests.

Vincent led River into his room. He removed his cloak and hung it up on a hook. He sat down and turned towards River, "You feelin' better now?"

River looked at him and gave him a small smile.
"Yes" said River
She went to where he was and sat down near him. River loved to be near him and be cared for. He was the one person that didn't want to drug her or make her do something she didn't want to do.

Vincent smiled back at her. He knew she felt comfortable her. He always treated her as a person, even when she was having one of her episodes. Not only that, but he always saw her unique abilities as a gift rather than a curse as her brother thought.
"River, when you touched my mind earlier, I...felt something from you. It was more than just your presence. You care for me, far more than I ever knew you did, don't you?"

River felt a blush creep up to her cheeks. She wasn't used to being embrassed even if it was when she was alone with someone. River looked Vincent in the eyes making sure that she would be quite clear.
"Yes" said River "I do care about you more than anyone I've ever met"
River loved her brother but what she felt for Vincent was love to only a different form of it. She wanted him to understand that more than anything.

Vincent smiled at her. He was both happy as sad when doing so. Happy because he now know how River truly feels about him. Sad that he didn't realise it sooner. It was at that moment he made a decision. He's missed out on so much when he had to leave his family behind all those years ago, it pained him more than anyone could ever know. He wasn't prepared to go though that again. He put his arm round her and held her close to him, "I'm so sorry for not realising sooner. How long have you felt this way?"

"Since I met you" said River honestly laying her head so that her ear was by his heart.
She was happy there, she knew that he was to. If she could just stay like that her life would be fine. She'd get better and she'd quit having these episodes. She didn't care about that right now though she wanted to stay in Vincent's arms for as long as he'd let her.

The day they met. 20 years she had harbored these feelings for him. So much time gone to waste. So much they've missed out on. With River against his chest, listening to his heartbeat, Vincent felt more at peace than he had ever been. A thought cropped into his head and he sniggered a little, "I wonder what your bother's gonna say 'bout this. I wonder what everyone will say actually. It'll probably come as quite a surprise."

"Simon is going to say what he always says your my little sister you can't be with..." said River "Mal will be shocked but won't mind, he'll be mad he didn't see it coming, Kaylee will do what Kaylee always does, Zoe will just shrug it off the rest will just act like they always do"
River kept her head on his chest. She was safe and comfortable there. She was at peace with herself and the verse. River knew they missed out on a lot but it didn't matter to her. She was with him now and that was all that mattered any more.

You deserve to be loved by someone and to have a family of your own," Vincent removed the glove from his right hand and took hold of hers. He wanted to feel her skin against his. "And I wanna be that family." He closed his eyes and gave her the soft and tender kiss that she had waited 20 years for.

River held his hand and kissed him back. She loved this it was safe and wanted and gentle. She felt better than she had since she'd left the academy. She felt normal again which was something that was foreign to her. She put her other hand onto his face trying to keep him close. River didn't care what anyone thought anymore. She knew what they'd think and it wasn't important.
"I love you Vincent" said River quietly to him

With those words, Vincent was happier than he had ever been in his life. One of his teachers once said 'The ultimate goal for a warrior, is to attain a state in which the urge to kill is no more'. On this day, he had finally achieved this state. From now on he would only fight to protect the one thing he truly cares about. The feelings he had for his wife Lucy no longer mattered. She had moved on years ago, it was time he did the same. "I love you too River."

River's face lit up when Vincent said 'I love you too' to her. She was happy and nothing could stop that feeling of happiness. River held onto him feeling protected and safe for the first time since the academy. She'd forgotten what it felt like to be secure and sane. This was the best thing she'd ever felt. Sure Simon would get mad, but she didn't care, she was actually just going to call him a boob again if he did. River didn't ever want to move from that spot with Vincent. She wanted to just stay there and have him hold her for ever.

It wouldn't have taken a psychic to see how happy they were at that moment. For near 30 years he had been alone, now he had someone to share the rest of his life with. Thoughts of their future ran through his mind, the day they get married, the birth of their first child, growing old together. He was never going to let her go, no power in the verse will take her from him. Vincent felt the ship take off, it won't be long before they tell everyone how much they love each other.
