Vincent stepped in to see that the infirmary had been well prepared. He sat on the surgical bed and waited for the doctor's arrival. While he was there, he would ask Simon what he really thought about him dating his sister.

Simon Simon stepped into the Infirmary, seeing vincent already on the bed, he walked over to the drawes and pu on a surgical gown and gloves, and picking up a tray with a pair of forceps and a scalpel in it, wich he put in the auto-clave steriliser. As he did this, he said "Vincent, you should have got this bullet out hours ago, you know that.". |

Vincent looked over to Simon as he came in and got ready himself, "Yeah, I know. I got a little um....preoccupied. Speaking of which, how do you really feel about me and your sister?" Now probably wasn't the best time to be talking to Simon about this, but with all the new people on board, he probably won't get much of a chance to talk to him in private. "I mean, this is a big deal for her, and for you. I was kind of expecting more of a reaction from you."

Simon Simon looked at him, he had been expecting him to mention this. "Honestly?" he asked, but continued before getting an answer."Im glad. I know we dont get along as well as we could, but she really seems to like you." he purposefully didnt say love, it would be... awkward. He removed the instruments from the auto-clave, steam rising from them, but they cooled soon enough. |

Vincent was torn by what to say next. His ego wanted to keep pressing the issue until the doctor finally says what he was expecting him to say, but his devotion to River said that he should leave Simon alone. But what fun would that be. "I'm glad to hear that Simon. I'm sure River would be happy to hear that." Aside from River, Vincent felt Simon should be the first to know, "So...would you be opposed to me asking your sister to marry me then?"

Simon Vincents words made Simon stop in his tracks. "Im sorry, but, you... What?" he asked, still holding the tray in his hands, before realizing he had stopped moving, and placed it down on the little table next to the surgical bed. moving over to a draw, he pulled out a bottle of Morphine and a hypodermic syringe, carefully filling it, he laid that down on the table with the instruments. "You want to marry... River?" he asked, making sure he had heard him right. |

This was the reaction he was looking for. "Why yes Simon. I intend to marry your sister. Well, once I buy a ring and all that. This isn't goin' to be a problem for you, is it? After all, you said it yourself, she does...like me." Vincent was half mocking Simon at this point, but at the same time he was being deadly serious. "Not long from now, we're gonna end up being brothers-in-law. How fun would that be."

Simon Whilst Vincent had started talking, Simon had injected the morphine, straight into his neck. Picking up a small pin, he prodded vincent on the shoulder to see if it had taken effect. "Oh. yes. Fun..." he said, with his hollow sarcasm. |

When Simon injected the morphine into Vincent's neck while they were still in the middle of the conversation, Vincent tried desperately to have a go at him before he went out, "Hey man, thas jus mea...n." He tried but he went out almost instantly. The last thing he remembers was Simon's sarcasm.

Simon smirked slightly when Vincent objected. He was slightly worried though, Vicent must have been tired, Morphine was a pain-killer, not a sedative. Picking up a pair of scissors, he cut off the bandage, and pulled out the protien filler he had uses earlier to stop the bleeding. Using the ofrceps, he found the rifle bullet and removed it, dropping it with a clang into a little metal tray. putting the forceps down with it, he picked up a needle and stitching thread and began to stitch the wound shut.

River stood out side the door. She was silent as ever watching Simon work. He wouldn't know that she was there and fact was she didn't want him to know she was there. She hated the infirmary with all the needles and the pills and the other things that turned her from the sweet little girl she was to what she was now. River could tell something was going on she hadn't been scanning the ship with her mind. Vincent probably told Simon what he told her. She wanted to marry him and he said he would get a ring for her. River noted Simon's worry. He'd used morphine and Vincent was out like a light. River was tempted to go in and see what was wrong.
Morphine only got rid of pain it didn't knock people out. She knew Simon used morphine he only doped people when it was absolute necessary or Jayne got it in his head that he ran the ship. River didn't make a move to go in she'd wait until Simon was done before saying anything.

Simon pulled the stitches tight, and tied them off, cutting the loose thread. turning around, he saw River at the door. "Hey River, you alright?" he asked, putting the tray with the instruments away before they could upset her.

"Yes, how is Vincent" asked River knowing what Simon was doing
She wouldn't go into that room ever. She still stood by the door hoping Vincent would wake up. She was hit with memories from the academy again but she made them go away. River knew what the instruments were meant to do but she also knew what they did to her.

Quickly checking vincents pulse with his fingers, he said "Hes doing ok, theres no major damage, it missed the bone and arteries. But he must be exhausted for the Morphine to knock him out like that.."

She stared at Vincent still worried. She wanted him to get up and comfort her telling her he'd be okay. River looked at Simon, she could see who he was but he couldn't find his little sister in her yet. She was trying to be the little sister he lost but it was hard.
"Your son is turning out like you" said River "With the exception of his talent with the engine room, but he has picked up your inability to talk to girls"
