The Steamhardt had long ago pulled from Persephone and been in the black for about a day now. Home sickness sunk in a bit while she walked through the new place. As moments passed she wondered if she made the right choice coming to this ship. Then other times, when she spent it around the crew, she felt like she was finding a new home. Right now she was off on her own, occupying her time in the make shift infirmary. It was a little bigger then half the size of the one she was used to. In some sense it made it easier because she could tell people to back out who didn’t need to be in there. And since it was her infirmary she had every right to yell at people who didn’t listen to her. Sighing, Haven went to work.
Years ago she had gotten all her own medical supplies. Not really any drugs but a make shift surgical kit, gauze, sanitizing liquids and other oddball stuff like that. Her father gave her some of the extra pain drugs they had but Haven would have to convince Sebastian that they needed to buy more in case something ever happened. If she got Dave on her side it would be much easier. Malcolm had known him longer then perhaps she could gain some allegiance. Pulling herself up on the counter, she looked over the area plotting out where everything will go for easy access. As long as no one pulled a Jayne then he’d feel alright. But she hadn’t pissed anyone off yet that she knew of.
As she gazed off, her focus went in and out. Haven was alright missing the home she had known for twenty-three years. But she knew in time that would pass and things would get easier. Still the weight laid in her stomach as she wondered if this was the right decision or not. She knew Tristan didn’t agree with her but they were siblings. Eventually both would get over it and move on; they always did. In her world of memories Haven twisted the ring with her first home’s name on it thoughtfully. She was so zoned out she heard no one come around. Whoever it was probably thought she was fairly weird.

Walking down the dimly lit ramp, Kelly gave a yawn before putting the cigarette he had almost smoked to the end back between his lips. Sniffing he turned the corner, walking past the infirmary. His bright blue eyes glanced inside for a moment, just out of curiosity. He saw that young kid, the girl.... what was her name, something Tam. He contemplated on continuing to his bunk area, but intrigue caught the better of him, and the odd position she was sitting in. Going to the doorway he leaned up onto it, arms folded across his chest. Kelly always did his best to avoid the crew, avoid anyone, but as he stood there watching her his tilted his head to the side in question. "Girl what are you doing?" he asked, his brow furrowing in confusion.
Removing the smoke from his mouth he took two steps inside the infirmary before he started to check things out, not bothering to look up at the young Tam. Picking up a clear glass jar Kelly studied it, it was filled with a clear liquid and was cold to the touch. Juggling it back and forth between his hands his gaze lifted to her. "Your the Tam girl right?" he asked, being slightly more talkative then usual. Kelly figured it was because he hadn't been sleeping much, his cough had been keeping him awake most nights.

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. Haven was having doubts about being on the Steamhardt. Not that it wasn't a great ship but was she really ready to be on her own? She had no formal training like her father. Everything she had for skills had been learned on a whim. Even with the joint heist she was still learning a bit. Her father thought she was ready though. Like him medicine came naturally to her. Pulling a leg up the other swung as she tried to convince herself she was ready for this. All she had to do was keep up with articles and other readings on the cortex. The cortex had everything Haven needed to keep sharpening her skills. As long as no one's heart was grazed by a bullet then she'd be just fine. Haven just needed to stop letting her mind play tricks on her.
Turning her head, Haven wasn't entirely sure of this man. She knew he was crew of some sort but not sure of his position. The one thing she was sure of is his name. Kelly. She had a knack for putting a name to a face. "Just thinking of how I want this place to be set up." It wasn't a complete lie after all. She had been doing that before her mini panic attack. Haven's eyes followed the elder man's movements. This was her place of work and she didn't like when people invaded it. It had only been her's for a few days but she was already protective of it. As he played with a bottle of medicine she sighed. Haven pushed her body off the counter and took the bottle from his hands. She gripped it between her hands "It's Haven and please be careful with the meds. If you get shot we won't have enough narcs to keep y'all pain free if this breaks." Haven looked over the man. He seemed fairly gruff, like many men she met in her travels. A look up and down showed something else about him. Exhaustion perhaps? Everyone had a bit of sleep deprivation when up in the black. Setting the bottle back on the counter, she moved to the table and began to organize more from her bag. "What brings you round here? Figured most people would be chomping on food right bout now." Or so she figured. Haven didn't know people's habits around here just yet. She'd eventually learn the working of this crew, though.

Post by Jim James Dalton on Oct 26, 2011 23:33:03 GMT -5
Jim lay down on his bed bored and homesick he knew that right about now his folks, his sister and maybe one or two of his brothers if they were home would be sitting down for dinner. Briefly Jim wondered if he was really cut out for this life, his first experience of it hadn’t been pleasant and the moment he had gotten on the ship he had found the same type of man on the ship. Kelly. He was rude, arrogant, disrespectful towards women and just plain unpleasant to be around. Still it wasn’t all bad Owen had taken him under his win although the rest of the crew he hadn’t really spent too much time with.
Jim rolled his eye’s at himself he was bored and needed to do something. Jim worked out for 20 minutes doing push ups and a variety of other exercises his father had taught him before going on the cortex. Most of his messages were from his family with mostly about the latest hot topic being his fight with Sam his eldest brother. Jim’s other brothers for the most part supported him and complimented him on some of the moves he pulled against Sam, his mother implored him to forgive Sam, his father shied away from the topic completely wishing him well in his travels. While his younger sister Katie asked him why he left without saying goodbye and asked why everyone was actin so strange, she said she had asked the others, but all they had said was ‘it’s grown up stuff’. Jim had smiled at that he remembered that age, still he felt bad about not saying goodbye too her and said as much in his reply, though he had skirted her question completely.
Jim hurled himself out of bed before heading upstairs too find something to do. Jim left his room heard voices coming from the infirmary so headed that way seeing as he had nothing better planned. Jim entered the infirmary just in time to hear the doc tell Kelly off for messing with her meds. “If you get shot we won't have enough narcs to keep y'all pain free if this breaks." Jim grunted in amusement for a second before seizing the opportunity “And, I’m sure we’d all be real teared up if anything happened to you Kels” Jim said with just enough hint of sarcasm.

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. ”Well apparently it’s party central here,” ran through her mind. Not that she minded. Haven needed all the distraction she could get to try and get over leaving home. Being social was always the best way. Though Kelly hardly seemed like a sociable one. He came around the other people on the ship and for meals, but mostly kept to himself. If he talked it was often sarcastic and someone got mad about it. That was like her uncle but she had warmed him over. Somehow she doubted she could do that with this man. Then there was Jim or James or whatever he went by. He was much more reserved and only seemed to get along with Owen. Neither of those two men were bad looking but she wasn’t really look too much into that thing. Both of them acted like teenagers at times which was a riot to watch. Well, mainly Owen acted like a teenage boy and tried to egg on James. Then the man that was in her doorway would kick his ass very easily. At least this place had it’s fun moments.
Haven eyed the two men. Even if the few short days here she noticed some unknown issue between them. Reminder her of the stories of her dad and Jayne’s early years on the ship. apparently the two fought like cats and dogs. Organizing out what needed to be locked up when she wasn’t around and what didn’t, she simply shook her head. ”I would be. Like my father I don’t let anyone die who can be saved. Including boneheads like you two.” How was she going to survive on a ship where the men clearly outnumbered the women. At least on Serenity it was fairly even so she had some backup at times. Taking a handful of things and putting them in a drawer close to the table, she looked back at the two. ”So what brings you two my place of business. Curiosity, medical attention, boredom or a combination of any of ‘em.” While she didn’t mind it, she wasn’t a girl who was all ‘what’s your favorite place?’ or ‘tell me every detail about your life’. Better that she felt each person out so that Haven could tell if they were the type that wanted to know those things or not. Sometimes she didn’t care. Haven was a bit of the friendly, cuddly type. A quality her more resilient uncle had to learn to put up with. Thankfully, he had.
