(______________________________________________) i am a frame of a beautiful picture that can be won yet i grace a wall in a world of none still you stumble by, my beauty catches your eye then you stare and become lost in my glare and the rule of one goes back to none
(______________________________________________) Here she was, out in the black with no idea where she was going. She could use the radio to try and talk to someone, but the fact she couldn't speak and didn't know Morse code didn't really make that idea possible. Instead, she was stuck on her own with only her own mind to keep her company, which was quite maddening in itself! Staring at her reflection in the window to the dark, she canted her head to the left and let out a heavy sigh. The ship she was flying seemed to be a small fighter ship that was actually getting the guns put on. That meant it had nothing for offense. Yet, it was a quick little bugger, which is what pleased Em the most. Zipping through the 'verse, Em laid her head back and stared at the ceiling. Licking her teeth, she grumbled then dropped head down so she could stare out the window once again. That's when she saw it, a planet. A small blue planet just off in the distance and she jumped up with joy. 'Course, the moment she did that, her head hit the ceiling. She opened her mouth, but nothing really came out as she rubbed her head to ease the pain before she punched the ceiling. Normally a person would curse here, and Em did, but no words came out. Damn her being a mute. Shaking those thoughts aside, she began to focus on one thing, reaching that planet!
It didn't feel like it took long, though Em wasn't even sure how long she had been out in the black to begin with, until she reached the atmosphere of the planet. Closing her eyes, she began to recall the training of entering the atmos before she began her approach. The ship gave a jostle as she pierced through the atmosphere. The ship's hull began to heat up as she bounced inside the cockpit, quickly beginning to realize that she was coming in too steep. Correcting that mistake was too late though as one of the wings snapped off and forced Em to react quicker than she desired. The ship wanted to spin recklessly out of control, but somehow she managed to keep it steady, well, sort of steady. She was still bouncing around in the cockpit and the steering wanted to pull off her arms, but she was doing her very best. Dropping from the sky, Em noticed a dock nearby and a brow was swiftly rose. She was coming down on a place that looked like someone had eaten some peas then spit them out. Not knowing where to land, Em just picked a spot and began to do her thing. Buckling herself to her chair, Em gave one last heavy breath before she cracked her neck and went to work. Gripping the steering wheel tightly, she dropped the ship in, unable to really slow it down since one of the thrusters had been on the wing that she so carelessly lost. Which meant she was coming in hot. The radio began to chime in requesting her to divert. Rolling her eyes, Em just flipped off the radio and continued on her course. Even when threats were being made across the radio, Em was continuing her focus on dropping down on these docks, which meant ignoring all sounds around her.
When the ship connected with the ground, she could hear the screeches of metal scrapping the docks as she slide along. Jostling within the cockpit, Em released the wheel knowing that her life was now in the hands of a greater power. Gripping the buckles on her, she closed her eyes and waited for the motion to stop. The moment it did, she swiftly began to unbuckle since the radio was still making threats of killing her. Which also meant that Em was forced to take a different exit. Dropping behind the chair, she pried open the bottom hatch while the cockpit hissed while it opened and voices shouted. By the time they realized no one was there, Em was already walking away with a group of people and a heavy sigh came to her lips as she jaunted away from that mess.
Walking along, Em's boots slapped against the ground and wiggled upon her feet, almost as if they were far too big for her. Truth was, they were. Em had somehow lost her shows when she was abducted and stole these boots from the person who was tending to the stolen ship. Beyond that, she was wearing a white dress with a large brown jacket wrapped around her shoulders. 'Course, she stole the jacket from the same person too. Her brunette hair laid in waves around her face that looked slightly beaten. She clearly had a black eye and her lip was busted open, but that was all anyone could see. Blue eyes surveyed the docks as she walked along and then she spotted another ship coming down to land. Stopping in her tracks, she tilted her head as she watched it and gave a soft smile as she began to realize something, she was on a new planet! Instantly she became a hyper little child as she tossed up her arms and spun around. Head tilted back as her mouth opened up to scream with joy! Yet, only silence filled her lungs, but that didn't fade her smile. Resetting her head, she licked her lips and began to wonder what she would do now. Clearly she would have to find a way home, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to do that ASAP or take a while to actually explore the 'Verse before returning home. Her decision was made quickly since she wanted to explore and her attention turned to the ship that had landed nearby and she swiftly bounced towards it. That was also when she realized another main point...she was broke...

Toni waved good bye to the crew as they wandered away to cause trouble and what not. Bring home the bacon, etc. She giggled softly and brushed her hands against her pants and attempted to look decent. She hummed softly and pulled her hair out of its ponytail, blonde curls falling around her face. She rubbed her face with a rag in an attempt to clean any oil off if there was any (and knowing her there was plenty).
Taking a deep breath she smiled and let happy thoughts fill her as she glanced around at the crowds. She waved and giggled, cute and bubbly as she always was. It was no wonder why she was elected to find passengers and crew members. "All aboard! Steamhardt is looking for passengers. We're able to accommodate almost any destination!" She wasn't bad on the eyes either.
She smiled and watched the young woman wander towards their ship and waved at her. "Hello miss. Are you interested in flying with us? I can guarantee Steamhardt is the safest ship to travel in. I'm the mechanic and I keep her up and maintained. Is there a specific place you're looing at heading?" She tilted her head to the side, glancing at her curiously, not knowing the young woman couldn't actually talk back.

(______________________________________________) Walking towards the ship, a blond woman quickly greeted Em and began to ramble on about how her ship was the best. A soft smile crossed Em's lips at that thought. Everyone around seemed to be doing about the same thing, claiming it was safe in some way, shape or form. One person was claiming their ship was the safest because they had a well trained mercenary aboard! Another was shouting about how their ship was brand new and wouldn't break down at all, yet Em noticed that their ship was about as old as all the others, if not older, and it just had a new paint job. However, this woman not only seemed trustworthy, but seemed to actually have first hand experience on how safe her ship truly was since she was the mechanic and all. Strutting up to the ship, Em stared at it, examining it carefully as if pondering if the ship would be good enough to actually take. Though, Em had already decided that this ship was the best out of those currently around. However, Em's thoughts were soon disrupted when she heard the voice from the radio speaking close by. Turning her gaze, she spotted the security team that were clearly still looking for her. Moving her lips, she formed a curse word and soon bounced to Toni and gave a firm nod, but turned out the pockets of her jacket and frowned as she shrugged her shoulders. Hopefully Toni would understand all of that since Em figured the person didn't know sign language very well, if at all, and Em sort of lacked anything to write with or on. Which meant she was stuck playing this little game with a complete stranger. However, it was at that thought that Em's eyes squinted and stared at Toni a bit more. Something about this woman began to seem familiar, yet Em couldn't quite tell what it was. She just passed it off as deja vu since she got that often with people when she stared at them for too long. Instead, she held up her point finger then pointed at the ship. After that, she grabbed the air with both hands, both canted slightly and she waved them back and forth and slightly up and down too. Em's eyes soon diverted towards the security guards as they walked from dock to dock. Even though she wasn't sure if they knew who they were looking for, Em still felt safer if she could get on this ship as soon as possible. So, she diverted her gaze back to Toni and waited to hear what Toni deciphered from Em's little game of attempted speech.

Toni at first didn't seem to understand but a calculating look appeared on her face almost instantly, as if trying to remember something from long ago. Here in front of her was a problem, a problem that needed fixing and deciphering. That's how her brain worked, always trying to fix problems and find solutions, its one reason she was so good at machines. They spoke to her in their own.. kind of language, she could just almost /feel/ what they wanted from her. Not many people could do that but.... there was one that could once...
Sudden realization seemed to almost shine on Toni's face as she finally seemed to clue in on what the young woman wanted. She smiled softly, acted like they were talking about something to do with the ship, talking real low as she hooked her arm on hers and gently led her onto the ship, pointing to various parts as if she was showing Steamhardt off to a potential client. "You see its a lot more spacious on the inside than the outside..." She trailed off leading her from the cargo bay and up to the kitchen where she motioned for her to sit at the table as Toni rummaged for something to drink for the two of them.
"Why are you running from security?" So she hadn't figured out the entire situation but she was starting to hone in on it definitely. "The captain won't be pleased with me bringing on passengers that can't pay... is there anything you could help with? Are you good at cooking or something? I promise we on Steamhardt can keep you safe but we all try to pull our weight around here." She giggled and brought over two mugs with some tea, making a mental note to go out and shop before they leave, and set one in front of her. "My name is Toni, what's yours?" She blushed slightly, a little embarrassed at asking that and glanced around the room for something to help. "One sec!" She wandered from the room and came back with something that looked like a holographic keyboard and handed it to her.

(______________________________________________) Some reason, the woman didn't fully understand everything Em was trying to say, but she did seem to catch onto the fact she wanted to avoid security. So, that was the point Em focused on as she let the woman guide her inside the ship. The way the woman spoke however began to poke at Em's brain as she stared at Toni once again. That face seemed familiar, yet Em honestly couldn't place it. Since Em didn't recognize the ship, she just shrugged it off because Toni seemed quite knowledgeable of the innards of this ship. In fact, Em began to take a notice to it fully now and began to see the gentler beauty in it. The way the ship was designed showed Em that it was built for flight. Not like most of these ships out in the docks that were built to hold cargo or just look fancy. This one was actually attractive to a pilot, this pilot at least. A small smile began to linger upon Em's lips as they trotted into the kitchen. As Toni began to move from Em's side, Em adjusted the jacket upon her body, pulling it closer to her core, but it wasn't because she was cold. If anything, it was more instinctual like she was trying to hide something, yet Em honestly couldn't think what she could be trying to hide. Only thing she could think of was attraction since she found this ship just beautiful. Was it an odd thing to find attractive? Em couldn't help but think so since she had never done such a thing before.
Shaking those thoughts from her head, she soon took a seat at the table and listened to Toni ramble on and on. She was asking questions while she was making the tea, not once taking the time to look back at Em, so she stayed quiet, not like she had a choice anyways. Instead, she just watched Toni as she moved about in the kitchen. A voice screamed inside Em's head while her eyes traced Toni's movements. Those graceful movements that jingled a bell in Em's head. Her gaze focused, lip quirked and brows furrowed as she began curious why all of these bells were blasting in Em's head. They were clearly trying to help her remember something, but nothing was coming up. It was...blank. When Toni finally turned around, Em shoved her look and thoughts aside as she gave a soft smile to the tea. Air pushed heavily by Em's lips when Toni continued asking questions that were very difficult for someone like Em to answer without sign language or some way of external communication. Gripping the mug, Em watched Toni blush then rush off once again. Taking a long sip, Em melted and quickly began to finish off the tea inside. It didn't matter that it was a little hot, she was finally remembering her hunger and thirst. Sighing in content, Em placed the empty mug down as Toni came back with a keyboard. Taking the keyboard, Em smiled brightly and her fingers swiftly went to work on the pad, Oh, thank you for this! I was just dying without some way to communicate with people. Well, playing little games with my hands is fun, but only when people are quick enough to understand everything, though I suppose it didn't help I wasn't very specific either and was a bit parched too. You have no idea how long it has been since I have actually seen people! In fact, I have no idea how long it has been. Anyways, I am Emilie Judith Adler, the gov-, she paused in her writing as she soon stared at Toni and shook her head, Yeah, anyways, I was actually running from them cause I crashed a ship in their docks. Not sure if they know they are looking for me, but I would prefer not to take that chance. And yes, I crashed, mostly because I forgot the proper entry for planets. But, you honestly cannot blame me since I have only done it once a loong time ago! Oh, and I may not have any money, but I am a decent pilot, least that is what all of my teachers said. Plus, I did manage to land, or crash, that ship when it was lacking a wing. Not sure how much damage was done, didn't really stick around to look, but I know part of the wing was gone since it wanted to jerk to the left like a unbroken mare. Have you ever tried to break a horse? They can be quite tough. I have done it, but my father objected heavily. Unluckily for him, he has never been able to stop me from doing anything I wanted. Probably why he actually taught me how to fight too. So, yeah, that is pretty much all I can do. I don't cook since I had other people doing that for me, like my parents, 'course. Which means I can either help out with hand to hand combat, which probably won't be too useful, or piloting the ship itself. And thank you for this keyboard too! It is great to speak, well, in a manner of speaking, 'course. Being a social mute gorram blows! Not like you would know, but yeah.... Her typing came to a stop, finally, and all Em could do was smile sheepishly as she wiggled her shoulders around, showing her hyper mood quite clearly.

Toni blinked and watched the multitude of words appear on the hologram as she typed frantically to her. Its not like she didn't understand anything the woman tried to say, it was just hard to make out the more complicated stuff. No that's not right, not hard per say... she just felt... rusty? Which was odd because they only time she'd ever done anything like this was...
She blinked out of her train of thought and giggled softly, no that couldn't be right... could it? "Well you can keep that, its not like I use it for anything really." Her name rang bells and sirens in her head. As her calculating mind went through the possibilities, she continued. "Well so long as you're useful in some way... oh! We don't have a pilot! Well not at the moment... long story. I could talk to the captain and probably get you a job. You seem a bit unorthodox but that's okay, we're a ragtag bunch. But its a family."
For someone who couldn't speak.. the girl really seemed to like to chat. Finally, her brain, which was full of knowledge and had this knack for unlocking problems and finding solutions, figured out why this girl was tripping bells in her head. She squeaked and stood up, suddenly enveloping the girl for a hug suddenly, not meaning to almost suffocate her against her chest. "EM! Its you! I mean its me... do you remember? Oh right, my name... Toni! Toni Star! My dad and I use to visit you on your home planet when we were little." She definitely had grown up and filled out since the last time she had seen her.

(______________________________________________) Staying silent, and keeping those quick fingers still, Em let Toni speak and listened to her words. A smile crossed her lips when Toni said that she could keep the keyboard. It would make her life a lot easier since she enjoyed talking so much. Well, her sort of talking. So, an ecstatic smile crossed her lips as her sapphire orbs twinkled with delight. Getting gifts was something Em was use to, but none that were as useful as this. All she ever got were dresses, jewelry, and flowers. Never had anyone gotten her something like a holographic keyboard or boxing tape for her hands. No, that stuff she always had to get herself. Not even her parents got her anything so mundane. Probably because they didn't want her to lead that sort of life. Sadly for them, Em did what she wanted, and there was no way they could stand in her way. Then, the conversation seemed to turn as Toni spoke once again. Mentioning how she could talk to the captain and actually get Em a job as a pilot! That was quite amazing, though Em wondered how good she would be. Piloting was one thing, but she had to also navigate the stars she didn't really know all too well. Em would squeak right now though, but her lack of vocals made it pretty much impossible to make much of any sound besides air pushing through her lungs. Jumping out of her chair, she smiled brightly and nibbled upon her lower lip.
If that wasn't exciting enough, Toni began to remember something they had both long forgotten. So, Toni's sudden expression caused Em to raise a brow as she stared at Toni, watching her carefully. Not only that, but Em quickly found herself wrapped in the other girl's arms. Air pushed by Em's lips in a happy sort of way as she hugged Toni back, but her words changed everything! Toni Star, her lips spoke as Em's eyes lit up like fireworks and clung to Toni's body before swinging her around. Stepping back, Em grabbed Toni's hands and found her cheeks were beginning to hurt from how big her smile was getting. She was no longer alone in the 'verse! Toni Star, her best friend from long ago, was here with her right now! The odds seemed rather enormous, but Em honestly didn't know what they could be in the first place. Out of all the excitement, Em moved her hands to Toni's cheeks and swiftly moved in to place a tender and quick kiss upon Toni's lips. The entire situation didn't even register as being abnormal to Em as she bent over to type on her holographic keyboard, Oh my goddess! I thought I'd never see you ever again after our fathers had that awful fight at that last party we shared. I am sooo happy to see you again and I just. Em stopped typing and just gave Toni another hug, holding her close and finally feeling at peace. All of Em's worries, the dock security just outside, being lost in space, and the men who had abducted her to begin with all melted away from Em's mind. Right now, it was just Em and Toni, and that is the way she liked it.

Toni couldn't help but blush at both the girl's excitement and display of intimacy. She blinked a few times trying to process just what had happened. Had her long lost childhood friend just kissed her? Oh well, Emilie had seemed to move on to a different subject, there was no use dwelling on it and getting all flustered when she seemed to not care.
Shaking her head slightly as if to clear her head of her thoughts, her blush faded and she smiled at the young woman, glad to have her friend back. She seemed energetic as ever. Toni was glad to see that her handicap hadn't brought her down at all. She had always known Emilie was bound for greater things than being stuck at him becoming a lady and being weak and feeble as everyone assumed she should be. It was a shame people jumped to conclusions so quickly because she was sure her friend was the strongest person she knew.
"I'm so happy to see you again as well. Its been too long. I'm sorry I haven't been in touch, you know how our fathers get. Wouldn't let me." She hugged her tight again and giggled softly, glad to have another close friend aboard. But wait... "Hey.. what are you doing all the way out here? I thought your dad hated you leaving the house much less the planet...?" It was a bit confusing and she hoped she wasn't in trouble or her family wasn't. She'd been pretty out of the loop with news since running away from her own family and hoped that's not what Emilie had done. Sure she knew she could take care of herself but that didn't stop her from worrying all the same.[/blockquote]

(______________________________________________) The kiss had barely registered to Emilie until she saw Toni's reaction to it. Though, it had already been done, so Emilie just smiled at it before letting the entire event slide away. Toni was one of the few women that Em actually got along with and probably the only person that reminded Em that she was in fact a bit of a girlie girl. Ever since their fathers fell apart, Em was just doing her fight clubs and acting like a boy in a dress. She also cut her hair quite short for a while. Em clearly let it grow out now since it was flowing down her back quite nicely. Listening to Toni speak and gave a gentle nod and soft frown at the fact that their fathers were rather stingy when it came to that stuff. That very fact had Em depressed when it happened and always trying to figure out what had happened, but her father just shut her out of that part of the discussion. Never-the-less, even with their father's objections, the girls were back together and that is when the question came up, what was she doing here. Em took a seat and sighed heavily and let her fingers begin to type, This was not really a part of my plan. Honestly, if everything went according to my plan, I would be at home snuggled in my covers. Sadly, I am quite lost since some men decided it would be a keen idea to take me away from my home. And no worries, those men were dealt with, I doubt they will follow me and are probably still nursing their injuries. Which leads me to being lost and in trouble with the security here since I couldn't quite remember how to enter the amto of a planet. Can't blame me though, only done it once before today and my ship is now a mess and certainly not going anywhere...plus, talking to people via comms is not what I do best, she silently laughed, Oh, and could you not tell anyone? Not sure if I want them to know who I fully am just yet since this may be my only chance to see the 'verse without my father being all protective, she added on with a desperate smile crossing her lips. Though, Em also knew she could trust Toni, probably why she was willing to tell Toni everything that had happened up until this moment. Made her life a lot easier to have someone like Toni around, and Em hated lying to Toni.

Toni's eyes teared up slightly, worry for her long time best friend welling up inside her. "Oh hun!" She hugged her tight again, not wishing that none of that had happened to Em. Then again she kinda was glad, because if it hadn't have happened, Emilie wouldn't be standing there with her and Emilie couldn't have the adventure Toni always knew her tough little friend had always wanted. So she sniffed and wiped her eyes, nodding slowly as if answering her own unasked question. Maybe it was a good thing, she had to stay positive, happy.
"I would never betray your trust and tell anybody!" She nodded to confirm this and tilted her head slightly, curious. "May I ask why not? You just don't want it getting back to your father? No worries, I'll get the captain to make you the pilot and but you can even stay in my room for now if you have to... it'll be like those sleepovers we used to always have! Oh this is gonna be so much fun! I missed you so much Em!" She hugged her friend again, still unable to believe that it was her, standing of her. It was nearly impossible and yet...
"I'm sure the captain won't make you pay if you're gonna join the crew but even if he does want something I'll be happy to help. I took a bunch of money from my parents when I ran away. Its been rough and I do miss them but I feel like I did the right thing... I'm living my life... the way I want to."

Dave had been walking around the ship, trying to find something to do, when he heard a voice - Toni's - talking away quickly, and strangley to herself, it seemed. He headed down the ship towards the kitchen, where he saw Toni sitting with another young woman, the unknown woman using a holo-keyboard to converse.
Dave called out to Toni from the passageway he was walking through "Toni, why is there a stranger in there with you? You know we keep new passengers in the cargo bay until the Cap'n has done his meet 'n' greet routine."

(______________________________________________) Toni was excited, a bit more excited then what Em honestly thought she would be, but it didn't bother her at all. In fact, Em enjoyed Toni's gay attitude towards their reunion. No one could understand what it was like reuniting with a very old friend after so many years have passed. Yet, now Em was wondering if she had any bruises on her face since the last thing she was doing back at home was fighting in her little fight club then there was also her kicking the asses of the men that kidnapped her plus the crash. Raising her hand, Em felt her face for any blood, not feeling anything as she casually rubbed her fingers across the sides of her face. Only thing she did manage to find was a bump on the side of her eye, probably from one of the punches she took back at the club. This meant the other wounds, if any, were hidden beneath her clothes. Em was thankful for this and hoped her assumptions were true. Enveloped in the loving embrace of Toni, Em smiled brightly before returning the embrace and even closing her eyes for a moment. It felt nice to be with Toni again and Em realized how much she truly missed Toni. Everything about her was intoxicating from her views on life and just her amazing attitude towards everything. Sweet and cheerful. How could anyone hate Toni?
Toni began to talk about pay and then her father whom she had left. It was a depressing topic, but Em knew it was probably for the best since Em could rarely remember anything good about Toni's dad. Main thing Em always did remember about him was his dislike for Em herself and the fact she was hanging out with Toni so much. Em had even heard him claim Em was a bad influence since she was a trouble maker. Yet, all that was behind Em and now they were together again! But, a voice entered the air and interrupted the reunion. By instinct, Em turned around swifty and felt her fingers curl up into fists while her eyes glared at the man who decided to sneak up on them. His words made it seem like he was better then Em and all she could do was scowl in silence. Honestly, Em was rearing for a fight since her blood was now pumping and her body just screamed for some action! Standing around waiting for something to happen was not Em's strongest trait, but she knew if she started a fight with this pompous little man, win or lose, she would end up in hot water with whoever the captain was and maybe even Toni depending on her relationship with this...dick.
