Right now she was pacing in the kitchen, trying to think of the best way to approach that she was leaving Serenity. Her brother knew all about it, and her aunt probably knew too, but everyone was keeping it quiet. Now that they were out in the black, trying to find someplace to go, Persephone would be the best bet. Mainly because the Steamhardt would be there and she could hop ship over to them. She was their new medic after all.
Kicking the tip of her boot against one of the makeshift chairs, she took a breath. It was now or never. Grabbing the radio to the com, she pressed the button. ”Could I have all the crew to the galley for a chat. Just the crew.” There weren't exactly a lot of passengers so that’d be easy enough. Haven pulled herself up onto the island counter, her heart pounding a mile a minute. She really did love her family, just she needed to make her own path in this world. She had to get her own medic position instead of just helping her father and taking over when he didn’t feel well. Serenity would always be home, but that sometimes wasn’t enough. Sometimes people just needed to breath on their own. And haven was drowning here.
There was nothing wrong with being here. Just all her family was here and she shared a shuttle with her brother. That and since Alora came aorund busting out the news the Academy was still around, there had been those issues. She knew her Uncle Malcolm wasn’t happy about that and her dad probably had some issues with that. Haven didn’t know and wasn’t sure if she did want to know. Sometimes to get closer to your family you had to leave and that’s exactly what Haven Tam was going to do.

Simon was busy cleaning his medical instruments when he heard his Daughter's voice come in over the comm-system, and put away the last of them, before heading out of the medical bay and up to the Galley.
When he reached the Galley, he gave his daughter a hug, but didn't say anything - he had an inkling what this was about, and wanted to make sure his concerns where not unfounded before voicing them. That is not to say that they where not written all over his face....

At the moment he was looking over possible places to look for a job. They would be running on fumes soon enough if they didn’t have proper heading and he had to do his job to provide for the crew. Plus taking on passengers didn’t help things out too much. Sure it provided a bit of money but the way haven dropped hints that she was a chef and to make her more of crew had him worried. his niece knew how to say the right things to plant things in his mind. Problem was he knew nothing about the Hart girl and her demeanor told him she had to be around some ritzy folks. Question was would she turn out like Simon or like the Alliance cop that’d had hunted the Tams.
Didn’t change the fact he stormed into the kitchen. Mal’s face was set into a scowl as he pulled out his normal chair and fell in. ”Alright little miss, whatcha calling us all in for?” His hands clasped behind his head as he teetered backwards. Jayne had trickled in along with Inara and Kaylee. Simon was being awfully silent. if his medic knew what was up before him Mal would rip a new one about him. Which wasn’t unusual since he still picked fights with Simon just for giggles.

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. When her father entered, he embraced Haven. Her own arms wrapped under his, hugging him close to her. When she was gone she’d miss this most-when her parents hugged her close. They weren’t all about telling each other ‘I love you’ constantly, but when hugged by her family she knew she was safe. The look on his face was one of mixed emotions. Guilt washed over Haven. A father always knew when something was up with one of his children. Not that hints weren’t dropped everywhere concerning her leaving. Things she had scattered about the ship were suddenly in the shuttle she shared with her brother. She was also fiddling about the infirmary alone, rereading over her father’s cortex and making notes in a notebook to bring with her. She had to be prepared for when she was on her own.
Haven fidgeted where she sat her petite frame. She didn’t want to say too much until everybody was here. River and her brother was missing, but her brother knew what this was about. it had caused much tension between them though she had hoped he would’ve been more understanding. Serenity was no longer the place for her. Haven was too close to everyone and she needed to expand some. It was almost nuclear here and she had to go someplace else. ”I’ll tell you in a minute, cap’n. Just waiting for everyone to get here.” Haven couldn’t meet anyone’s eyes directly. She’d look at them then move her gaze elsewhere. Haven knew different emotions were going to fly as soon as she spoke her peace. She wasn't sure how’d she react yet but it would be equally strong. But Haven had to do this...
She just had to.

Jayne found a seat in one of the empty chairs and leaned back, folding his arms over his chest. He seemed as oblivious as the captain as to what they were all doing here, and glancing around the room at everyone else didn’t help much. Reading people was never something he’d been good at. Knowing when someone was going to shoot you, that was one thing, but the day-to-day goings on of the ship wasn’t something he'd ever bothered with. At least he wasn’t alone. The captain spoke up, voicing the same question that he’d already been thinking. His eyebrows raised a little as he looked from the captain to Haven. Her response was less than helpful.
“Better watch out cap’n, looks like ‘little miss’ is callin’ the shots now,” he quipped, leaning over towards Mal. He anchored his thumbs over the top of his belt and slouched down a little deeper into his chair as he waited for Haven to tell them what was going on.

Tristan wiped his hands on his trousers, a horrible habit he'd taken up lately, as his sister's voice rang through the coms. His heart wrenched in his chest. So she was finally going to tell everyone, finally going to come clean. There was a tremble in his hands at the thought and he had to shake them to get it out. A part of him had hoped that she'd give up her quest of independence and just settle back into the way things had always been here. Apparently that wasn't likely to happen. For a moment he just sat there in the engine room staring as the engine rotated on it's axis. It was so peaceful being alone here. There wasn't anyone expecting him to smile or talk, or explain the inner workings of the trace compression block engine in laymen terms so they'd understand. All in all it was peaceful. Up until the point his sister had to call the entire crew to the galley.
With a deep sigh Tristan got to his feet, wiping his hands on one of the towels slung over a bar neck to the hammock he occasionally fell asleep in. The engine grease stained the cloth and satisfied his own sense of cleanliness. With that he slowly slipped out of the engine room and headed to the galley. It was probably the shortest walk of his life. He wanted it to take forever, but in just a few seconds he'd reached the galley and his eyes slowly took in the family he had always known before locking on his sister, a person he was slowly beginning to realise he didn't know at all. He stepped inside the doors, but didn't take a seat, preferring to lean back into the shadows of the room. He'd rather blend in with the room than be acknowledged so openly, even among his family. All he really wanted was for Haven to spill her guts to the rest of them so he could return to the sanctuary of the engine room. Besides he had the oddest feeling that he was really the one that was to blame for his sister wanting to leave. The thought weighed heavily on his mind as he crossed his arms over his chest.

Inara had heard people being called into the kitchen so she was asked to come, which was strange since she was there for the Captain. But then again she saw everyone as family, so when she got there everyone was there already. Seeing the Captain however made her smile, walking over to him she stood and watched everyone, wondering what this was all about.
"Relax Captain" She said with a kind smile on her face, being respectful and began to wonder if people knew that she was the only one who saw his kinder side. She sat down on a chair and watched everyone, curious.

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. Haven knew there wasn't anything else she could do at this moment. There was no more stalling as people filed in one by one. Once Tristan had dragged himself to the galley, her heart nearly broke. It'd be so hard leaving him, especially because they were twins. She knew that he figured that's why she called for this meeting of the family. No passengers allowed meant this was fairly serious. All Haven could do was stare at the floor until the foot steps had stopped and everyone was in the room. Closing her eyes, she breathed out before looking up and around the room. Each face she stared at now wouldn't leave her at any point. Aside from photos, they were engraved in her very core. Each person had touched her life in some way. They had shaped Haven into the woman she was that was so confident in leaving te confines of the safest place she knew. All she hoped was they understood and forgave her.
Another breath in and she began. "As y'all came in some asked what this was about. Other's didn't and that's ok. I called everyone up cause I've got some news. I got us a hook up of a job on Persephone. One we'd team up with the captain with. Don't got much more then that. But..." Haven paused as her heart beat a mile a minute. "But it's a good payout. Enough for all of us to be ok for a bit. And....and cause that's the perfect time for me to fill their spot for a medic. I'm leavin' Serenity." She didn't expect her eyes to water up like they did but it happened. Tonight was going to be an emotional one all around. But she couldn't cave into the sentimental emotions. She had to strong by her decision to leave her home and grow on her own.
Before anyone could start in, she continued. "I know some people will be happy and other's hesitant but I just want everyone to realize it's my decision. I love y'all but I need to leave and be on my own. Alora will be there and Dave so, ya know, there's people around who care. And it's gonna be hard, believe me but I want to do this. I feel like it's the right time and it's not like we'll never talk. Just please understand..." That last plea was more to her parents, especially her mother. Once he left home to join Serenity. Hopefully she'd see that Haven needed this like she had once. Her father had given her the skills to make it on her own as a medic. She could do this.
Slowly, Haven moved her eyes over each face, wondering who would say something first. Malcolm, the strong leader of them all. Somehow he found a way to keep a level head in stressful situations. Inara, the woman behind the man with all the grace in the world. So many emotions could be held in her yet she still pushed through. Zoe, who was like a stone but found ways to still enjoy life. Haven often confused her as emotionless when really she was just being realistic about life. Then her son, who held many qualities of both parents. Wash's sense of humor and light heartiness and Zoe's cool demeanor. Jayne, her favorite uncle, who was so full of tension and a need to brawl. He had taught her so much, showing his love without ever having to say it. The hardest three to face were her immediate family. Aunt River, wise and intuitive beyond her years, had been a guiding hand to Haven. River's past made her who she was-a bit of a roller-coaster that had a good heart and sound advice. Her mother, always full of cheer and arms welcoming anyone to them. Kaylee had so much love in her heart for people in her life, yet she showed each such care. A bond between a mother and daughter ran deep, through years of chatter about beauty, life, changes that happen and love. Then her father, a bit thick at times but only having people's best interests at heart. When in the infirmary it was like he was in a trance but outside he was a bit awkward but in a good way. Just watching his actions each day were her favorite from trying to flirt with their mother, watching River for re-occurances of her past and keeping his workplace tidy.
And finally Tristan. As twins, their bond was often a deep one. When first approaching him about her desire to leave, she had wondered if he already knew what she wanted. There was no outright discouragement of her thoughts but she could tell he didn't want her to leave. Part of her didn't but it was small to the rest of her. As she told him this, it just set her mind in stone about it. Whenever she packed, she wondered what he was feeling and thinking across that makeshift curtain. Soon he could take it down and that what? Could Tristan get through an intense "episode" without her there to run right to? With two passengers in tow he was bound to bump into one of them. Haven worried about what would happen then but she'd find a way to help even from afar. Even if they couldn't wave, she'd do something before leaving to help him. She'd do something to ease the pain for everyone on the ship; including herself.

Jayne watched as Inara and Tristan filed in. With that, Haven began to speak; he stared down at the floor, zoning out a bit. His hand reached down to his side and idly toyed with the handle of his knife, sliding it in and out of its sheath a couple of times. That was until she mentioned the word “job” followed by “good payout.” They were some of his favorite phrases, after all. His eyes, lit up and he raised his gaze to focus on Haven just as she went about breaking the news to the rest of the crew. His jaw dropped just a little and he glanced over at Mal. It was more habit than anything. Although they had their differences, he did look to his captain for direction, even when it wasn’t really relevant or necessary.
He didn’t meet Haven’s watery eyes. Tears still made him somewhat uncomfortable. Sure, he’d grown as a person, but he had limits. Looking around the room, he tried to see if anyone else was as shocked as he was. The results were mixed. He could use a strong drink. [/blockquote]

Simon turned his head to acknowledge the others entering, giving them the semi-distant, yet polite, nod that many had come to expect from him recently. He could almost hear the final words before his daughter spoke them, and once she had finished them, he almost didn't know what to say, but he held his tongue in front of the rest of the crew, his head tilted down to the floor, as he bit his lip.
