The following gives basic descriptions on the planets and moons through-out the Core. There is a separate thread for the outer planets. It will describe the terrain, notable landmarks and some basic history. At the moment, all info is from the Serenity RPG Book. Feel free to make additions.
Has many tall buildings of gleaming glass and steel that reach the sky. Holographic Billboards advertise all manner of wonders. The night is filled with light and the day is filled with the hustle and bustle of business. Has the best medical facilities in the 'verse with the latest technology. Also has the best restaurants and is home to the most famous chefs. The food is so good that folk travel here from other worlds just to have dinner. It is said that even the hot dog vendors are gourmet. Like most Core planets, Ariel is a restricted landing zone. Only those with legitimate business may land. Though, if you look like you belong, no one askers too many questions.
After the initial colonization of Londinum and Sihnon, Bernadette was the first planet to be terraformed and settled by humanity. The last remaining ark, Prometheus, stands in the capitol of New Paris as a monument to their courage. Prometheus is 5 times the size of an Alliance cruiser and the sheer sight of it inspires all manner of awe and jaw-dropping. It has now been converted into a museum dedicated to the history and cultures of Earth-That-Was. Bernadette is the traditional launching point for those looking to settle on the outer planets and there are many businesses that cater to these settlers. Settlers and outsiders should watch there step as there is an underground slave-trade. Bernadette is restricted but if you claim to be a settler or with kiddies for a field trip, you're usually welcome.
Boros is not as industrialized as the other Core planets. It has a lot of prairie land with sprawling ranches and farms. The cities have some factories the manufacture that are mainly used on planet. Ares, one of the moons, is home to Iskellkian's primary shipyards. This means that Boros is crawling with all manner of government agents, bureaucrats and military folk. A full battalion of Alliance troops is barracked here as Ares is the target for terrorist attacks and corporate raiders seeking the newest technology. Boros' main industry is scrap metal. Parts that fail to make Alliance standards find their way to Boros to be sold off by less reputable tech-companies. Boros is the best place to find parts for anything and at a reasonable price. Boros has few restrictions but Ares is completely off-limits.
Greenleaf has a large tropical belt and as a result, massive jungles and rainforests cover most of the planet's surface. The numerous tropical plants that grow here provide a variety of life-saving drugs that cannot easily be synthesized in a lab. Upon seeing the enormous profits being made, some of the residents began to make 'clippings' of pharmaceutical plants and grow them privately to sell on the black market. The Alliance and the drug companies have tried various techniques in clamping down on the smugglers but with little success. The thick jungles provide excellent hiding points and anyone that know the jungles well can easily get around the landing restrictions.
Hera is a largely agricultural world where food is grown, processed, packaged and distributed across the 'verse. Sadly Hera is infamous for Serenity Valley, the bloodiest battle of the war. Hera is located between the Core and the outer planets on a major shipping line making it a place of great strategic importance during the war. Many long years after the war ended, the valley remained blackened and charred from the fire storm that swept through. Many of the scars can still be be seen to this day. The only landmark is the graveyard in the hill on the opposite side of the valley from the town of Serenity View. Over half a million men and women--both Alliance and Independant alike--are buried here, each with their own identical headstone. Many don't have names. Serenity graveyard is the most hallowed and sacred pieces of ground in all the 'verse.
Londinum is the very heart of the Alliance. The Parliament building and the government complex that surround it covers an area the size of a city and remaind the most impressive sight on the planet. The parliament building contains the great debating chamber known as 'The House'. The government complex provides offices for all the ministers and civil servants and features a huge clock tower which has become the planet's symbol. Virtually everyone on Londinum works for the government or for businesses that deal with them. The original European and American settlers contructed the cities out of the most modern material but look as though they were built from stone and are of archaic design. The general look of the cities is what book-smart folk call the 'imperial gothic' style of London from Earth-That-Was. Londinum is also home to the greatest collection of western art in the system. The Londinum Museum of History and Art contain all mannor of treasures from Earth-That-Was. Londinum has the strongest military presence with the Alliance flagship, Victoria, in orbit and is home to the Ministry of Intelligence HQ and the elite SAS (Special Alliance Support) troops. Because of the government buildings, Londinum is heavily restricted. Any unauthorised vehicles get shot down without warning.
Osiris is the heart of the Alliance's judicial branch. The decisions made in the High Court affect the interpretation of parliamentary law with repercussions throughout the system. The Court in housed in a pyramid-shaped building in Capitol City. The head offices of all the major law firms are based on Osiris. The University of Osiris boasts the most prestigious law school as well as a fine medical school. The corporate offices of the Blue Sun Corporation are also here. The very latest security systems make the complex nigh impossible to break into and no one enters without undergoing a thorough background check. Osiris is a restricted world but not as heavily as some of the other Core worlds.
Persephone's environment is a lot like Earth-That-Was with desert, rainforest, plains, tundra and such. Persephone has a tradition-orientated aristocracy, a small but thriving middle class, a fair share of the poor and desperate and a shadowy underworld. The Eavesdown Docks is the largest spaceport here. Most ships touch down only a few yards from the street vendors that sell cheap good to the crews and passengers. The docks are located in the poor section of town, but its only a short drive or a long walk to the business district where just about anything in the 'Verse can be bought for the right price. The docks are also home to several criminal 'lords' who have plenty of ways to make quick, if not Alliance approved, easy cash. A good crew with a flyable ship could make good coin here so long as their morals aren't overly high and don't mind avoiding the Feds.
Sihnon is well known for a beauty that words alone fail to do it justice. Sihnon is the heart of the Buddhist religion made obvious by the many monasteries and temples located all over the planet. Sihnon is also the central hub for the guild system, most notably the Companion's Guild. All Guild business takes place behind closed door and as such bribary is common. The undercover officers in charge of tackling this take there jobs very seriously and are well trained in combat, interrogation procedures and espionage. The capitol of Lu'Weng is one of the largest producers of silk in the system and the raw silk is farmed all over the planet. Sihnon is restricted but because of the imense traffic, the government issues passes to those that frequently come and go. Such passes aren't hard to get, nor are they hard to forge.
