Kaylee walked into the engine room and saw the scattered tools on the ground and across the work bench and she couldn't help but smile. Whenever she thought of how much like her Daniel was becoming, she was filled with so much joy and pride. She felt blessed to have raised such wonderful children. She knew how they could've turned out and how much more trouble they could get into, but was glad they were better than that.
"One of these days, we won't work until some ungodly hour of the night so we will have enough energy to pick up our tools at the end of the day." Kaylee said to herself as she picked up the tools and tossed them into the various tool boxes.
As she continued to pick up the tools, she again thought of her children. She knew part of the reason why her children never misbehaved (well nothing major anyway), of course she and Simon had a hand in it, but it was mostly the influence of the other crew as well. Since Zoe had her own son, she treated Haven and Daniel as her own children, disciplining them if need be. Fear of having to bear the wrath of Mal or Jayne helped too. Sometimes she worried if their threats for punishment were too much for her children, but eventually she knew it helped her children want to be good people not because they knew they'd be punished other wise, but they eventually found it was the only way to go in life. She also knew Jayne and Mal would never intensionally harm her children, not more than any normal good parent would in disciplining their children.
Kaylee finished picking up the tools and smiled at how much better the engine room looked with a clean floor. She also liked that it was safer now too. After a few more moments, she decided to join the others in the cargo bay to meet the new passengers.
