New friend old memories

Kaylee looked to the doorway and smiled as Bella and Daniel walked in, arm-in-arm. "I was wondering where you two had gone off to." She smiled at Vincent's comment. She was about to reply when Dave ran through. She looked at Daniel as his face changed to panic. He looked at her and it reminded her of when he was a small child asking about Mal. "Don't you worry none. Cap'n has been in many situations like this before, he's always come through with hardly a scratch." She smiled slightly, trying to hide the fact that she too was nervous for tha captain.

[Haven Tam]

Haven went in and saw her mother, brother, aunt and Bella in there. Hugging her mother, she was shaking. "Is-is he going to be ok mum?" Haven was glad Bella and Daniel seemed to make a connection, but right now all she would think of was whether Mal would be ok or not.

Daniel put his hand on top of Bella's. He felt reassured know that she knew how much this meant to him. He felt a little reassured from his mother. He would have felt more but he was now old enough to know that things can always go wrong. Daniel put his other hand on Haven's shoulder. He saw the tears in her eyes, she need reassurance more than he did. He started to get a little teary-eyed himself. This always happened when he saw his sister like this.

[Arabella Hart]

Bella looked at Haven and put her other hand on her shoulder to help reassure her. Bella didn't know what to say because she didn't know the man yet. All she knew was River was the one who had hired her. Biting her lip, she peered around, not knowing what to say. All she knew was cooking and some sewing. She wasn't good with guns-hell, she was deathly afraid of them. The only reason she carried one was because of the rape.

Kaylee watched Daniel and Bella placed a hand on Haven's shoulders. When she saw the tears form in her daughter's eyes, she felt she would die. If there was anything she couldn't stand, it was to see someone she loved crying, especially her own children. She placed a hand on Daniel's hand which was onver Hanven's shoulder. She squeezed it lightly and removed it from Haven's shoulder. She got closer to her daughter once again and held her in comfort. It killed her even more when she felt Haven shaking.

"Shh, it's going to be okay sweetheart. Cap'n will be fine. In just a little bit, he'll be right here eattin' dinner with us, tellin' us his new story of today and tellin' you where he wants you to hang that wonderful picture you drew." She almost whispered to Haven, but she wanted to be sure the others heard it too, so she could try to comfort them as much as possible. As she stroked Havens back, Kaylee tried to fight back her own tears, but the combination of Haven being upset and the fact that she actually didn't know if Mal would be okay forced them out. If there was one thing she hated, it was having her children see her cry. This time, however, she knew it couldn't hardly be helped.

v\Haven just hugged her mother. This was hard for her to take in. There had been plenty of times when she took care of laser wound sand bullets wounds, but nothing serious. Thinking back, her picture was somewhere in the common room, waiting for Mal to come back. Wash and Book’s faces where drawn upon it, at the time it seemed a good idea, but now it seemed frivolous.

She could also tell Bella was trying but felt out of place. Haven felt out of place because she couldn’t do much. Her parents never liked her and Daniel going out to help out on the jobs. Feeling her mother’s shirt getting wet, she pulled back and wiped her eyes. “Mum, can me and Daniel help look this time. Please?” Haven wanted to go look-as soon as she composed herself some more.

Upon the mention of it, Daniel jumped at the idea to look for Mal. He did feel pretty useless at the prospect of just sitting there waiting to hear back from the others. "Please mum. Let us help out, just this one time. I promise we'll be careful." Apart of him felt guilty about leaving Bella to go look for Mal, expecially after the time they just spent together. But Daniel knew that it might not be save and he didn't want to risk putting her in danger, expecially after the trauma she has already suffered.

[Arabella Hart]

Bella jumped back a bit as Daniel leaped out of the chair. She had a million things running through at once. She didn’t know much about who went out looking for missing crew, but Bella didn’t know much about looking for people. She didn’t know how dangerous it would be or not. Not knowing too much, she stepped forward and offered, “if-if the crew wants to go find him, then I can stay behind here.” Looking between everyone, she smiled weakly. “I do have a small gun.” Bella didn’t know if it would help or not. She was just trying to do something to help Mal to the best of her extent.

Kaylee looked back and forth between her children. "I- I don't know if- I don't think that-" Kaylee stuttered. She hated the thought of Mal being God knows where in God knows what kind of trouble. But the thought that ailed her the most was possibly risking her children to find him. She wasn't afraid because they couldn't defend themselves; living amongst the crew as they had helped them to learn various skills- she just didn't want to see anything happen to her children."I don't know if there is anything you guys can do." Kaylee said softly.

She felt helpess and defenseless. She knew they would go if they wanted to. She hoped they would understand why she rather they didn't. They were 19, they were old enough to make their own decisions. Honestly, she couldn't stop them if she wanted to. But she knew they consulted with her because they were a close family and it's simply what was always done. After thinking for a moment, she heard Bella mention they she would rather stay behind. At first she thought the same way. But knowing her children wanted to help, she knew what she had to do.

"Fine." She said in partial defeat. "Haven, if Bella doesn't mind, you can use her gun if she would rather stay here. Daniel, there's the small gun vault in the cargo bay. I want you to get out two guns from there." She closed her eyes and swallowed hard. "I'm coming with you." She looked to her children for their reactions. As headstrong as they were to find the captain, she was about keeping them safe.

{OOC - Yeah no one leave yet lol. I got the perfect 'exit' but I can't do it if everyone leaves before I post again. I'd do it now but it would just seem like too much. Stay shiny!}

Haven almost thought her mother was going to say no. She was very protective of them, no matter the situation. “Mom, we know enough to defend ourselves and not get hurt.” She pointed to her, Inara and in the direction of the cargo bay. “You all taught us how to take care f herself. Besides,” she paused a moment, not knowing how much Bella knew about what Serenity did for jobs. “We grew up fast young with what we saw.” Haven left it at that, not wanting to let Bella onto anything before Mal got to talk to her.

Mal. Her face dropped a little. He had always been protective of the kids as they grew up. Haven looked up to him a lot. She really wanted to help find him. And when her mother said yes, she was ecstatic. Sighing, she hugged her mother. “Thank you.” Going to the table, she took off the bracelets she had mad over the years and the earrings she was wearing. They would only be a bother. Her sweatshirt would also be left behind, but the long sleeve she was wearing would be enough if it got cold enough.

Standing there she turned to Bella. “Is it ok if I use you gun?” Knowing Bella, it was probably a small one, good for Haven going out for her first time. She didn’t need ones like her uncle Jayne had. Looking up, she was rather shocked. She knew her mother never fought. The only time she did, she had gotten hit herself in the fight. “Are-are you sure mum?”

Daniel hugged his mother when she said yes. Daniel and Haven were at an age where they were old enough to make their own decisions but young enough to still defy parental authority. Had she have said no, then they probably would have tried to sneak out. Not that it ever worked for him. "Thanks mom." He removed his tie and took a moment to think. He had been well taught on how to fight and shoot, but he hardly ever thought he would have to use those skills. When his mother said she was coming with them, he was completely taken back, "Is that such a good idea?"

Kaylee's face went almost stern when her children asked if she was sure she wanted to go. She knew her children wanted to protect her. Everyone who knew Kaylee knew she was against violence, but she loved the captain. He was like a father to her. She loved her children more than anything in the world and she knew even if she couldn't help get the captain back or even protect herself, she could at least protect them.

"Yes, I'm sure. I love the captain just as much as you do, if not more. He's always been there for us, I don't see why I shouldn't help in returning the favor now that he needs us." Kaylee hugged both of her children. She watched Haven shed her jewelry and sweatshirt and Daniel removed his tie. "Before we go anywhere, I need to find your father. Even if he doesn't come with us, he needs to know what's going on so he is prepared- just in case." Kaylee hated to think about it, but it was true. Someone might get hurt and she knew Simon would need to be ready, whether he spent the time preparing before if he decided to go with them; or if he prepared when they left. She knew it would have to be done. She gently kissed Haven and Daniel's foreheads and gave Bella a motherly smile. "I'm going to go find your father. When you're ready, meet me in the cargo bay. Don't leave the ship without me, dong-ma?"

[Arabella Hart]

Bella watched what went on between mother and child. They had a good relationship, despite the tension; she could tell. Bella never knew her mother very well-only scraps of memories. And everyone deserved to know their mother in some way. Bella often wished she could know her mother more then just from her pictures. Her grandmother made it sound like her mother was the worst person in the world for abandoning Bella, but Bella knew mother.

Nodding to Haven, she agreed to loaning out her gun. Turning away, she didn't need anyone to see her as she lifted her skirt up a little. It was an easy way of carrying it around with her wearing skirts. If she hadn't been so scared earlier, she might have gotten it out when the men approached. It was attached jsut below her knee, so she didn't have to lift her skirt high. Pulling it out of the holster, she handed it to Haven. “I can go get more ammunition for you.” On her way out, she heard what Kaylee was telling Haven and Daniel. Smiling to herself, she moved out of there swiftly to go grab the ammunition for Haven as her parents raced through her mind.

Inara remained silent, it wasn't the first time the Captain had been taken, and it certainly wouldn't be the last.

Of course she worried for him, Mal was still hers, at least in Inara's mind. Getting up from her place she tidied up a bit, pushing her chair back in and putting Kaylee's chocolate concoction away so that it wouldn't spoil or get upset by someone.

"Don't know how much help I'll be, can't hurt to just watch though." She said, moving form the kitchen and out to the Cargo Bay.

Daniel gave a small smile at what his mother said to him and his sister. It sounded as though she was more worried about making sure both Haven and himself were safe as opposed to wanting to rescue Mal. When it became obvious as to what Bella was going to do, Daniel also turned away in embarrassment. She may not have been exposing much but it was enough for him to feel awkard. He turned back to his mother when he was sure it was safe to look. "Don't worry mom, we'll wait." He looked back to his sister when everyone left. He saw Bella's gun in her hand, "Are you sure you want to do this sis?"
