Bella walked over to her bags and picked them up. She didn’t want them laying around. The list of places she could contact Betty were in them and she didn’t want anyone to find them quite yet. They were all on core planets and she didn’t want anyone thinking she had ties with the alliance. No, she’d wait a bit to tell the captain, until they had a level of trust.

Following River out, Bella smiled at the thought of a new path to cross.

With the Galley to herself now, Inara closed her eyes, letting herm ind expand and envelope the room. This action allowed her to bring up the memories she had from this room.

The Dinners, the Jokes, the wounds, and slow to heal emotional scars that were still open. Though she was labeled a "retired" Companion, She and Mal never seemed to grow any closer, though how she wished for it after all these years. That he could put aside everything, even if it was just for one night.

Mal...where was he?

Kaylee walked into the kitchen and saw Inara alone, deep in thought. "Hey there 'Nara, you okay?" She smiled and passed the center table on her way to the counter. She looked over what they had. She decided to make one of her small protein creations so the 'real' food could be saved for Bella to work with. She figured since it was only a snack anyway, no one would mind. Kaylee had her own special gift of making protein taste of something else. 'maybe try that chocolate flavoring again' she thought to herself. She glanced at Inara and how deep in thought she was. "Hey Inara, I'm about to make a snack, do you want some?" Kaylee smiled and added up the measurements of everything she needed in her head and she began to whip up some of her 'nearly' famous chocolatey tasting protein. She hummed to herself a tune she created as she went along, while she cooked. Thinking of life and how much Daniel was like Simon with his awkwardness toward Bella.

The sound of Kaylee's voice brought Inara out of her memories. Looking up to the other woman she smiled.

"Hey Mei Mei, Yeah I'm just fine, just remembering that's all." Inara explained, switching her brain from remembering to focusing on Kaylee.

"I'd love snack, thank you Mei Mei." she added, leaning her arm over the back of the chair, her chin resting on her arm so she could watch Kaylee work.

Kaylee looked up and smiled when Inara finally replied after a moment. "So, what were you thinking about? If you dont mind my asking." She asked stirring her protein 'mix' for the snack. Once she was done stirring she moved some of the mix to a new bowl and brought it to the table. She went to one of the cupboards and found a box of plain crackers they had from the last time she was able to go shopping. She put them on a plate next to the bowl, and sat next to Inara. She smiled as she picked up two crackers, dipping each on into the mixture, she offered one to Inara. She smiled wider when she tasted it. "Mmm! well, it ain't real chocolate, but it will do." She giggled as she had another. "This is better than the last time I made it. At least it tastes a little more like chocolate."

"Just remembering, there's a lot of years of life in this ship, I'm sort of surprised she's still flying after so long and everything we've put her through." Inara said with an affectionate smile as she looked around her at the walls of Serenity.

Inara took the offered cracker and placed it into her mouth "my goodness Mei Mei, it certainly does taste like chocolate." she announced taking another cracker and dipping it into the Protein.

"What do you think of our new shipmates?" she asked, changing the topic.

Kaylee smiled at Inara's compliment as she ate another cracker. "Thank's 'Nara." She said handing her another. "I didn't really get to meet any of them. Well I talked to the young lady, Bella. Daniel seems to like her." She answered, still unable to stop smiling. Her smile did fade somewhat as she went on "though the poor girl does seem a little distant. Maybe she was just nervous, bein' around new people and all." She took another cracker. "There was another mand in the cargo bay, I didn't get to talk to him before I came up." She shruged, " I will get to know everyone soon enough I suppose." She took one more cracker and loaded it with the mix, more than she had taken yet. "I think I should sstop eating these. They're too good, Daniel may not get any by the time he comes up." She said chuckling lightly. "Well...okay one more couldn't hurt." She quickly took one and popped it in her mouth, like a child trying to hide the fact that they took an extra piece of candy. She smiled as she savored the food. "May not be the genuine article, but it's close enough."

Vincent stepped into the kitchen, it looked exactly the same as it did when he was last on board and when he first came on board all those years ago. Thats what he liked about it, no matter what happened, it stayed the same, never changing, forever sailing, always a home. He overheard Kaylee talking, "If you ask me, I doubt your lad would mind too much if he's getting to know that girl better." He went over to give Kaylee a hug, "How you doin' Kaylee?"

Kaylee smiled when she heard Vincent's voice. She hugged him when he came to her, and kissed his cheek. "It's so great to see you! I suppose you're right." She smiled again. "Things have been pretty much the usual around here I guess. Problems come, and I fix 'em. How have you been?" She asked smiling, gesturing to the plate of crackers with her 'chocolate' protein dipping sauce.

Daniel walked in with Bella on his arm. He looked round and saw his mother, Inara and Vincent. A slight sence of arkwardness came over him. He had never had a girlfriend before and yet here he was standing infront of his mother with a girl he just met on his arm. "Hey...everyone." Daniel prepared himself for one of Vincent's little jokes. With any luck he'll be kind to him this time.

Bella walked in wiht Daniel. She could tell he was as nervous as he was. SMiling at everyone, seh tried to hide how nervous she was. It probably wouldn't take too long for them to figure out what was going on. Deciding to remain quiet for now, Bella waited to see what would be said.

[Dave Cassidy]

Dave came thundering through the hatch, practically diving through, with his Rifle in his hand, he panted "Mal's been taken!" before running back out to the cargo bay.

"Oh, same old, same old. Once you've heard one of my stories you've basically heard them all. Ooo, don't mind if I do." Vincent took a cracked dipped in choclate and he had a confused look on his face, the taste was most unusual, "mmm, well I must say. If it was any one else I think you just might have convinced them that it was real chocolate."

Vincent looked up and noticed Daniel and Bella walk in, arms linked and clearly nervous. This was far too easy for him to make fun of. He was about to speak but Dave burst in about Mal. Vincent took off with all haste to the cargo bay.

When Daniel heard about Mal, he just stood there in shock. "Wha-what?" He just crashed on the seat next to his mother. "I-I-I can't believe it. H-H-He'll be ok..." He looked up to his mother for hope. She always seemed to make everything feel better and he couldn't stand any of his family being in danger. "...right?"

[Arabella Hart]

Bella was transfixed. Her new captain was taken-and she hadn't even met him yet. "I-I haven't met him yet. I-dunno what to do." She was confused. Bella didn't know too much about what they did-if it was transportation or if they were smugglers. SHe would find out soon enough, but right now she was confused.

Going behind Daniel, she put a reassuring hand on his shoulder. She left plenty of room in case his mother came around. It wasn't her place to take over-they weren't married or anything.
