Waiting

[Captain Malcolm Reynolds]

Mal's head was spinning. Hugging Haven, he was slightly impressed with the girl. Looking at her, he nodded. No need to put eh ron teh spot. "Haven, take her to your mother's old room. I'll be down later."

He turned on Jayne. he was mad at what Jayne did. "What is said about cahrging into a lady's room. Let her be if she doesn't answer. I'm the one who does the cahrging.

Kaylee walked into the cargo bay and watched as Mal talked to Jayne sternly. "Captain! Welcome back, we missed you." She walked to him and kissed his cheek. It was then she noticed the tension between him and Jayne. "Is there trouble cap'n?" She looked to Haven and Bella- Bella seemed uneasy. It worried her a bit. "Haven, Bella, is everything okay?" She looked back and forth from Mal and Jayne to Haven and Bella. Whatever the trouble was- she was sure it wasn't too bad. But she knew it was there.

Inara had left the kitchen earlier when everyone had practically gone crazy, her head was hurting her, probably a result of all the readers on board Serenity. It happened at times, and when it did, Inara always quietly retreated to her shuttle for some good old-fashioned meditation.

Upon hearing voices out in the Cargo Bay, she rose from her spot at her Altar and poked her head out the door, seeing Mal and everyone returning she stepped out onto the cat walk, but didn't bother speaking, she simply leaned her forearms on the Railing and contented herself with watching everyone.

Seeing that Mal was still in one piece caused her heart to flop around in her chest for a few moments. She'd made a decision earlier while she was focusing...but she wondered if it would change anything between her and Mal.

River went up to Vincent pulling away from Simon. She fixed her gaze on Mal, ignoring Simon completely.

"I hired Bella and James" said River "No others"

River looked at Alora and went wide eyed and grabbed onto Vincent's arm. She wanted to hide behind him from the girl. River looked at Bella.

"Don't worry about Jayne" said River "His bark is worse than his bite"

River looked to Mal again, she stayed near Vincent though. She wished that there were less people in there so it could be just her and Vincent. She was still holding onto Vincent's arm. She looked at Alora, sizing her up and then turned to Vincent. She wasn't sure about Gene at the moment if he'd call the Alliance, she was humped.

Vincent looked up to see River coming towards him. He just smiled at her, he didn't know what to say, especially in a room full of people. "Hey you," when she took hold of his arm he put his hand on top of hers. Vincent noticed that she seemed a little distressed, he begun to whisper to her, "You doing ok? Wanna go somewhere else?"

"Let's go somewhere else please" said River, not trusting Alora.

River looked up at him with her big brown eyes. She knew that he'd take her out of there and he wouldn't question what happened to her like Simon would. River wasn't in the mood to be questioned she wanted to be alone with Vincent until she felt like talking, Mal could figure things out on his own.

It stuck James he had never introduced himself to Mal. James quickly looked, "By the way, Mal, The names James Than... and, I hate the alliance, what else is there to say..." James trailed off, not really paying attention to anything. "Come on, I know where the common room is, at least I'm pretty sure..." James again started out, waiting for Alora.

No need to tell the whole boat everything yet. Mal would just have to suffer without her name...s for now. He already knew her first one, and she knew he had a pretty good idea of what she was. Smarter than he looks. "The common room is this way James." She pointed straight, and then followed her fingers. "By the way Mal. I'll be waiting for that talk of ours. It should be exciting...for you anyways." She smiled and continued on her way. The Inara look-a-like disappeared by the wall, making her way to the common room.

Vincent just looked deep into her eyes. Just from looking he knew she wanted to be alone. He knew she had read the letter, and the emotion that went into it spoke volumes, and it was clear that River knew that. He decided to take her to the one place she could seek refuge, "Come on, I'll take you to my room," he whispered.

Dave stood up, he had finished cleaning his weapons, and slung the rifle over his back, and holstered the pistol. Looking to Mal, he simply said "Im Dave Cassidy, Im a jack of all trades, I suppose, but I grew up on a Firefly like this and I know how to fly her and keep her in the air." he said, smiling and looking around the cargo bay.

Simon

Simon watched as River walked up to vincent, and felt almost hurt. He looked down to Mal and then back up at Vincent before saying "Vincent, that bullet needs to come out now." emphasising the 'now' part.

Watching her own reflection walk out into the common room as if she already owned the place, Inara felt a chill run up her spine. Something about the girl tugged at her brain, but everytime she'd focus on it...it vanished, and she was left holding air.

"Mal? Would you like me to go up and see what's holding Jay and Daniel?" Inara asked from her point on the cat walk. Her red and gold dress seemed to flow about her, the woman could be royality, if her surroundings were a bit less...falling apart.

Mal hugged Kaylee, closing the cargo bay doors. “If they don’t hurry it up, their behinds are mine for dinner.” Most everyone but him, Kaylee, Jayne, Haven, Bella and Inara had left him. Sighing, he had a bunch of new passengers. “After food I’ll show you to your rooms.” He turned to Haven. “I’ll take Bella. I need to chat with her as I plan on having her full time.”

He watched Inara, his heart racing. Their games would begin again. They always did. Their little dance. He cared, but it was complicated. He didn’t say anything. Instead, he cleared his throat and nodded to Bella. He did want to go. “We have to talk after I go with Inara.”

Leading the way, he followed Inara. He was mighty hungry, but he would wait.

Bella stood back up. She picked back up her bags. “I have to finish up dinner anyways. The rice needs to cook. It won’t take more then ten minutes, then all is done.” Looking at Haven, she blinked back the rest of her tears. “Thanks. It’s ok. I need to tell you all eventually anyways. Want to come with me?” Bella headed up the stairs, alone, to the kitchen. She didn’t know how long she would be alone though.

Haven beamed. Her mother was back and Bella seemed to take a liking to her. It was good. To have a friend would be lovely. Especially someone who wasn’t family. “Ok. Be up in a minute.” Rushing, she hugged her mother. Leaning, she whispered, “Daniel and Bella were kissing.” There, she left everyone to follow the disappearing Bella.

When Mal told her he'd come with her, Inara's heart did a cartwheel inside her chest. She turned from the railing and moved to the part of the catwalk where Mal could join her, before they both set off for the Bridge.

River smiled at the thought of going to Vincent's room. She wasn't liking Alora at all and it was going to be a good thing for her to get away from her. River like the emotion that came from that note. It spoke volumes to her and everything was something she needed. River walked after Vincent quietly and in her true nature.

Kaylee smiled as Mal hugged her and commented about the boys. Of course she knew he wouldn't really scold them, he was just being the authoritative type. She smiled when Haven approached her a hugged her. Her face went blank for a moment when Haven whispered into her ear. She looked at her daughter for a moment before watching her go on her way. She smiled lightly. Part of her was a little disappointed. Not because of what Haven had told her, but now she had to face the fact that her children were really growing up. Obviously seeing as how they were both 19, she knew they were grown-up, but she had never really dealt with this before. Most of all, she was happy for Daniel. Bella was a sweet girl. She had her troubles, but they all did. The two of them seemed to flow a certain way around each other. She was glad her son was happy. Now all she had to do was go through the awkwardness of talking with Daniel about it. She figured she would give herself a chance to get to know Bella- so she headed to the kitchen to see if she could be of any help.
