Basics:
Name: Malcolm Reynolds
Age: 65
Picture:
Build: A fit build that is slim with some slight muscle to it.
Hair: Brown
Eye color: Blue
Height: Just shy of six foot
Skin Tone: Just slightly tanned, which is different for flying around all the time.
Personal:
Personality: Mal is a protective man-protective of his crew nod ship. He’s the misfit Robin Hood of their time-except he robs form the rich to sell to the poor. While he doesn’t follow the laws the Alliance lays down, he doesn’t deceive or stab you in the back like most of the low life’s in the ‘verse. He is in between the two. As a result he may not have much for friends outside of the ship, but he has the connections to get work. He is not a religious man either. Mal doesn’t believe in the higher power, but he will trust humanity as they are. If treat him bad, then he trusts you to always be bad; if you treat him good, he trusts you to always be god. But if you become his crew and gain his trust and liking, he is just as protective and loyal to you as anyone else one his ship. But if you cross him, you better run!
He is an intelligent man, though much of the education he got is rarely shown. He is cunning and smart when it comes to a tough spot. After fighting the war, Mal said ‘Once you've been to Serenity, you never leave; you just learn to live there.’ And he has with his ship Serenity. His makeshift crew has become family to him and he protects them. He has a close relationship with all of them. When a new crew member is recruited, you have to gain his trust and Mal himself will lay down the rules and what they do around there. If you can’t be trusted, well, you better run and never speak of what you heard.
Background: Mal was born September 20, 2486 on the planet of Shadow at his mother’s ranch. Growing up, he got a good education while being raised by his mother and the ranch hands. He learned to take care of himself so when the time came, he could make it in the world. He may not have a lot of book smart education but he knows all he needs to get by in the Verse. A fancy education doesn't get you far unless you're a purple belly, doctor or on the Core in general.
After leaving home, he volunteered for the Unification War fighting for the Independents. He became captain and his second-in-command Zoe Alleyna became his long time friend. They fought through some of the most memorable battles together. At the Battle of Serenity he was given a brevet promotion to Captain, but the war was lost. They had fought long and hard and to this day, Mal still believes it was the right side to fight for.
After the war, Mal bought a Firefly-class transport naming it after the battle that would follow him forever-Serenity. Getting together a makeshift crew over a span of four years-Zoe the strong willed second-in-command, Wash the goofy pilot, Kaylee the hyperactive mechanic, and the trigger happy mercenary Jayne-Mal set out in the business of transporting whatever goods he could. It helped to have a companion on board who opened many doors for them. The Core didn't question a cargo ship docking if a bonafide companion was on board. Still, the makeshift family struggled. Needing to get money to repair the ship, he took on three passengers-a Shepherd, a doctor, and a traveling man. Well, one turned out to be an alliance spy and that didn’t go over well and another turned out to have some very special cargo....his sister’s body. The alliance spy was shot dead, the doctor, Simon, and his sister, River, were running from the law. But none-the-less, Mal took them in-especially learning the tale of River Tam. Shepherd Book became part of his crew as well, helping to ease the mind of the crew at times and intrigue them with his mysterious knowledge of the Alliance military and government. Malcolm and him often bumped eads over God butthey got along well enough.
Jayne tried to turn in the Tam siblings, Mal was furious and threatened him if he was to try that ever again. Time passed somewhat calmly, but a few months later, the Alliance tried to trigger the skills that they imbedded into River’s mind. Instead of leading her to them, it lead the crew of Serenity onto a journey to Miranda. Along the way, they got guidance from Book who had left for Haven after a bounty hunter tried to grab River. He didn't go, finding his place was best on Haven. Inara had been gone after her longtime friend was killed-and she had slept with Mal. Being mostly together again, they set off ito rever territory and the mysterious planet. Once at Miranda, the secret of the Alliance trying to create a perfect world and leading to the creation of the reavers was let out. Going to Mr. Universe to get the message out, their plan was almost in smoke when the Alliance killed their friend. Wash died trying to get the crew into the planet, and Book had died a day earlier when Haven was attacked. When the message was out and things had calmed, te crew was allowed safe passage by the operative. The Alliance was crumpled and trying to rebuild themselves.
After bury their three friends, the crew started to move on. Kaylee and Simon finally got married and had twins while Zoe delivered a baby boy soon after te funeral. Mal often got annoyed having babies and toddlers running about but he learned to live with it. They are grown now so it's no big deal. Him and Inara even attempted to keep their flame going. Her job caused many arguements but when she finally stopped then things became close to perfect with them. They still bicker and Mal has a hard time with footing in a relationship. Her shuttle was abandoned and it was left for the Tam siblings to occupy. The two argue but it gives their parent's privacy in Kaylee's room.
Now it has been twenty years since the happenings on Miranda. The children are grown up and figuring out things like love and trust on their own. Everyone has become family now and he is protective of them all. He still treats Kaylee like his little sister and Simon has become a brother-one he bickers with constantly. Zoe has been up and down because of Wash being gone, and through she is still strong, Mall keeps an eye on her. Her son has grown up right before him and taken him by surprise with the things he can do. Haven is the miniature version of Kaylee and he tries to get TAMSON to open up more. All this while trying to stay flying and keeping under the new Alliance's radar.
A couple months after Miranda, the whole government was overhauled. It took a few years to get t's strength back but they did it. Over the years yhere has been talks of starting a new war. But it has never happened to this moment. After learning the newest Alliance secret, Malcolm wanted to. One little girl who found their way to them turned out to be his and Inara's daughter. After being detained once, tey had taken everyone's DNA. Apparently his and Inara's were perfect matches for a graceful yet thoughtful killer. The same school River was subjected to raised Alora. But the girl had escaped and sought out her parent's of sorts. Things were awkward to begin with but thu become a weird little family. She is out on another ship though, but they all talk often. Haven talks of joining her cousin but only to Mal and Inara. She isn't sure how to tell everyone else yet but Mal will do what he can to be helpful.
New crew members and passengers take time to grow on him. If he can trust you, you will know it. Some people he can just tell that they will be good for Serenity. Others he is apprehensive about, so he is cautious the first few months. But when he knows you are trustworthy, he will sit you down and tell you what goes down on Serenity. And then you are another one of his protected ones. Right now their ship is looking to take on some passengers for a bit of time.
Career/Occupation: Captain of Serenity, which is a legitimate business enterprise of shipping goods. Erm, if illegal, stolen goods is legitimate.
Alliance or Browncoat or Niether: Browncoat of course
Talents/Special Abilities: Getting into sticky situations and misbehaving. He has a way of keeping his calm in the toughest of situations. Most wouldn't know it by how he can act less then calm. Usually it's an act. Or he is angry while formulating a plan. Otherwise he is still learning to keep his emotions at bay since River still had troubles.

Other: Mal wears his brown coat form fighting in the Unification War still to this day. He also wears some tight pants that stretch and make it easy to move nad work, earning the nick name form Kaylee ‘Captain Tight Pants’. His prefered weapon is his standard issued military weapon, a .38 caliber Taurus model 85 revolver. He had it in the war and it is still good to this day.
Code: Wash
RP Sample: Mal walked around his bunk. It was small, but it suited him. Him and Inara had a fight a few days before-about the last time they tried getting together. Washing his face, he climbed out of his bunk and went to the bridge. He sat down before the familiar dinos as he checked their course.
Looking at the dino’s the memories of Wash whispered around him. The laughs they shared as he tried to find humor in everything. They time Niska took them was the only bad time they had together, but Wash was still brave through it all. Reaching out, he ran his finger along the edge of the T-Rex. “Well, my old friend, you will never be forgotten.”
Sitting there, he just thought about all the times this ship had been through as they floated about in space.
