New Shura Weyr
Turn 2585
Again the sky darkens. This time, smaller meteors light the sky up in large numbers. The first wave sails over the Southern Continent and into the ocean, barely making a splash as they vaporize in Pern's atmosphere. The second volley of stones are bigger, and a few head right for Shura, striking into the Weyr Bowl and leaving small craters.
Weeks later, another small volley heralds a much larger Meteor. Fire-lizards, felines, dogs, and every other pet either betweens or flees for their life. This triggers the dragons, keening out like some of their number has died, a warning that Shura is right in the path of this giant rock.
Riders frantically wink in and out of between with supplies, people, and anything they can attach to the dragons, depositing it at a remote lakeside far from Shura's location, a favorite spot of the Weyrleader.
As a few riders pop back to the Weyr last minute to get a few things that were left behind and never make it back. The rock strikes down, flattening Shura and causing small quakes for hours. Forests near the Weyr are flattened as well, and the closest Holds are destroyed as well. Some riders had thought ahead and gotten as many Holdfolk out of the way as possible, anticipating another Northern-like impact.
Turn 2586
The Shura riders decide to set up in the secure place that was once home to Halis and New Fort. Dubbing this Weyr New Shura, the riders go about trying to settle into this much different area. The main part of the Weyr became located in the Valley between Kilragis and Voris Mountains.
The riders take the Weyr into the next step of development, building a bridge over the small yet functional river, later named Halis River, running through the Valley, and being carving out Barracks for Candidates and Weyrlings in the face of Voris Mountain. As half the riders use half of what is left of the stonecutters that a Crafter recreated from the information given by AVIAS, the other half of the riders and stonecutters carved out more rider Weyrs along the face of Kilragis Mountain.
Turn 2587
As the Weyr comes together, a couple of riders with stonecutters find a cavern near the ground on the face of Kilragis, right below the surface. This cavern is large enough to house Hatching Sands, and the floor is naturally heated enough to keep dragon eggs healthy and hot. The Weyrleader and Weyrwoman send out a dozen riders to the desert to bring back soft sand to line the cavern's floor. The old Halis Hatching Sands is covered up with Metalworkings for the Infirmary.
With the stone cut out from the new Barracks and Weyr, the Infirmary and Great Hall, along with all the Kitchen hearths and other much needed things throughout the Weyr.
Turn 2590
New Shura's only Gold Rises. She betweens from old age as soon as her sixteen eggs, including one Gold egg, are safe in the Hatching Sands. Her mate, guards the entrance like an eagle.
The eggs Hatch, all healthy, including the new Queen, Gritorth, who Impresses to a sixteen Turn old girl named Lilian. The clutch also includes two Bronze dragons, three Browns, five Greens, and five Blues.
Turn 2595 - Current
Gritorth finally decides to Rise. She has taken her time, and perhaps Lilian prevented her Bonded from rising out of fear, but now the twenty-one Turn old girl is mentally prepared for it. And Gritorth wastes no time.
It is a decent Flight, and Gritorth is caught by one of her clutchmates. A Bronze by the name of Hilorth, and His Bonded, D'rin, is Lilian's first lover.
Gritorth lays her first clutch of ten eggs in the Hatching Sands, or as some call it Hatching Cavern, and guards it like a mother feline.
What will these ten eggs hold for the lucky ten candidates that will Impress their contents?! And what unknown side effects could the vaccine given to the dragons so many Turns ago might turn up?!
Only time will tell, and with Thread just five Turns away, and the always possible threat of more meteors that very well could destroy Pern completely, it had better be good!
Come join our fight to save not only the dragons of Pern, but Pern itself! New Shura is the only Weyr to keep all these monstrous threats at bay! Will you be who turns the tide?
