Owen was in one of his moods. One of the moods where he felt like being a bother. After the Colonel banished him from the cockpit, he was now on a hunt for Toni. The girl was usually a bit fun to chat with and poke fun to. She wasn’t a super girly girl so he could get along with her. Plus, the women on this ship were the only ones he hadn’t attempted to sleep with. Considering he sometimes helped out with jobs, Owen didn’t want to complicate things. Sure, playful banter could be exchanged but nothing that led anywhere. His feet carried him off to the engine room where she was sure to be hiding.
Poking his head in, one of Owen’s signature grins appeared. ”Well there’s the pretty girl. What’s grease ball up ta today?” Owen just let his body slide down the wall and plop onto the ground. Most people wore shoes in areas such as these, but he preferred to go sans footwear. If he got poked with something, then it was his own stupidity. Besides, everyone on here would pester him about it. ”So I hear y’all are gettin’ a new medic. Know her or is just the trio who do?” By trio he meant John, Alora and Dave. Apparently Alora was sort of this chicks cousin and Dave knew her family as well. Owen didn’t care too much though but thought maybe Toni had an idea about her.

THAT. FACE. OF. AN. ANGEL. COMES. OUT. JUST. WHEN. YOU. NEED. IT. TO. Toni's morning consisted of waking up in the engine room, snacking on something leftover from... was it yesterday? No perhaps the day before... Well anyway... something about the engine just wasn't running as smooth as she would have liked and she was attempting to figure it out but alas she was coming up with nothing. The last thing she needed was to ignore something small and have it turn out to be huge. Its not like their little gang of heroes was always doing the 'right' thing and so if they need to make a quick getaway but the getting away isn't so quick... well most of them would be in jail and she'd be back home playing the perfect little doll.
So she'd been cooped up in the engine room, checking all the wiring and tinkering with every bit and bob only leaving to relieve herself. So when Owen decided to saunter in with plans on messing with her concentration she hadn't heard the good news he was sharing with her.
"No I can't say I do know her. Nor have I heard the news." Nor did she care to much about it. "Guess its probably a good idea to have a medic on board. You have a tendency to stick your neck into the wrong business my friend."
Setting down her wrench, she glanced over at him, giving him a look that clearly was meant to ask what the hell he was doing in her engine room. Yes, hers. She tended to get a little possessive. Today she wore her mechanic jumpsuit unzipped, wearing them only as pants and a simple bikini top to cover her chest. She hated wearing a lot of clothes when working, it slowed her down and they had a nasty habit of getting caught on things. Her blonde curly hair was done up in a pony tail and she had smears of oil on all her exposed skin, including face.
"Perhaps its your soul mate. Congrats, maybe you can bug her. I can make sure you need a medic if you'd like." She picked up a wrench jokingly to show that she could easily whack him a few times if he'd like.

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. Until the Steamhardt, Owen didn't have as much fun as he does now. He was always serious and picking up jobs where he could. Most of them weren't the best and you wouldn't want them as real friends. They were good for the situation the group was in and that was about it. Being on this boat he was serious when needed and could mostly loosen up when needed. Plus Owen could work out and whatever else to get out his aggression. Then he could bug everyone when relaxed.
Owen had a half smile of confusion form. "Odd. Thought ya might've heard of her. Aside from the Miranda debacle." They had worked with Serenity before from what he had heard. Last mission was before Owen joined the Steamhardt. Upturning his lips in a mocking smirk his head tilted from side to side "Ha-Ha very funny. At least whiskey takes care of most of my issues. Including my biggest pain in the ass." In his moment of ADD, he grabbed some sort of bolt and started to toss it around. One fault was he could never sit still. It's why he dabbled in so many odd jobs. He had to always be busy. Yet when it mattered most, he was somehow able to slow himself down and pay attention to the issues at hand.
Toni surprises him. Coming from a warm planet last, he was always chilly in the metal ship. Currently in a sweater he was finally comfortable. Yet here she was in her jumpsuit and a barely there top. Owen rubbed his head as he shook it in confusion. How did she survive in an outfit like that? "Nah I'm not a soul mate kinda guy. Plus she's Alora's cousin thing and Dave already threatened backside if fronts touch." Plus Owen just never did relationships. Ever. He had pretty much always had one night stands so even if he attempted a relationship, it would probably fail. He wasn't the teddy bear with rough edges that girls wanted. Or very useful in one spot.
"Aww but ya won't hurt me. Ya like this pretty face." Hus pearly whites shined through as he laughed. The girl practically lived in the engine room so it was good to bug her every once in awhile. Mostly to make sure she was still alive. Who knew if she had died if no one checked on her? "I think you're just jealous that someone else may get lotsa hugs from me."

Toni shrugged and stood up, brushing off her pants, as if it would actually make a difference or something. Dust did cloud the air for a moment but her pants didn't look any cleaner. How long had she been rolling around the floor working? "I really haven't been on Steamhardt very long. I mean I hear things and I meet people but faces and names don't really stick in my head. Got too much useless information up here." She tapped her head lightly, grinning.
She stuffed her wrench in her back pocket and brushed the loose curls out of her face, smearing a bit of oil on her forehead. Not like she really cared or anything. "First of all, you ain't that pretty and second of all... I think you just like this aloof bad boy persona that fucks and leaves because its safe for you. I bet you're really a sensitive guy that's scared to get his heartbroken. You know one day you're gonna find that girl you wanna spend your life with and I have full permission to kick your ass and say I told you so." She giggled and wandered over to him, stretching her arms, feeling a little stiff in her shoulders. Perhaps she deserved a break...
"Speaking of hugs I'd like one now... c'mere.. you know you wanna hug this slimy, greasy girl. C'mon I won't even slap you if you stare at my tits."

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. Owen sighed. He was hoping to get some information from someone. He wasn’t interested in anything bad with this girl, just wanted to know more about her. It was his curious nature after all. Once she was here he was sure he’d have more then enough information. As long as she wasn’t all hoity toity because her family worked to get the word of Miranda out. He hated stuck up people with a passion. Part of being a working Browncoat. He thought you had to work to earn respect, not be born into family money. Or family with a heroic background. But he couldn’t judge until the girl was around
”Well I’m sure you won’t even notice her til she’s been round like a month.” When Toni hid out in here she could lose herself for days. Sometimes he wondered why she even had a room on the ship. The captain could just rent out the room and have her like is the engine room. There was always the storage closet for her things she couldn’t put in here. But he wasn’t technically crew so his opinions didn’t matter. Plus the little blond would probably beat him with a wrench to get him to back off her case. ”That explains why you come off as a true blond.” Oh how Owen liked to tease the girl. It was a lot of fun.
There were times he took it too far though. Furrowing his brows, he shook his head. How could he tell if she was joking or not? ”Except that’s not it at all. Sorry but I don’t exactly dream of the whole marriage and kids thing. Or even just marriage.” It was weird because Owen’s parents had a happy marriage until his father’s death. And he had plenty of girls who weren’t clingy who wanted a relationship. Just Owen never felt ready. it’s not like he had roots settled anywhere besides back home at his mom’s. Even then he was bored with life there. Why hop into something with a girl when he couldn’t guarantee he’d be there come the morning? ”If I find a girl who’ll travel about with me, then I’ll get inta one. But there ain’t a girl in the ‘verse I’m found who wants that.” The metal bit continued to go up and down as his shoulders shrugged.
Raising a brow, he chuckled. ”What? And ruin my fancy threads?”{/b] His clothes were stained up and faded enough that it didn’t matter so. Pushing himself upwards, he grinned as he went over and picked Toni up, spinning her about. ”What if I grab em? Will ya slap me or no?” Laughter was common from his lips when hanging around Toni. He always felt at ease when around this particular friend of his. Setting her down, he paced back and forth to keep busy. ”So when are ya gonna leave this whole and interact with humans?”

Toni sighed and rolled her eyes. She knew he'd find love someday he just had to trust himself. Gorram boy apparently didn't realize the pull he had on girls. Anyone would jump him and she did mean anyone. She wasn't sure what exactly he was subconsciously looking for but she figured someday she'd find out."Well you need a girl who likes to travel, a girl that can hold her own... hmm.. Well maybe it's gonna be a passenger we pick up... yeah I can almost guarantee that it'll be a girl that steps onto this boat at some point. But you know, even if you find this girl, she's gotta go through me. As your best friend dude if she's not good enough for you I'm kicking her out into the black."
She squealed and giggled as he swung her around, making her rather dizzy. Once he set her down, she attempted to regain balance before speaking."You know I'd slap you and then beat you senseless with my tools." She teased and stretched her arms above her head. "I think I should put a shirt on before I wander into the world of humanity. Its warm in here cause of the engine but its pretty cool on the rest of the ship." Well that answered that question. She wandered over to the corner and pulled a shirt up off the floor nestled between some wires and a hammer. She pulled it over her head and sighed, hearing her stomach growl. How long had she been hungry for?
"I suppose I could get something to eat. Perhaps take a shower or something later... Do you know when we'll be planetside? I kinda need to do some shopping. I need a couple parts and a few more clothes... I keep ruining mine."

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. Owen was taken back by a bit of surprise. How the hell did she knew what he wanted in a girl? He wasn’t even entirely sure. At this point all he liked was a girl good in bed, wasn’t clingy and knew that when the Steamhardt left the ship, he left with it. He hadn’t thought much into what he wanted in a girl for the long haul. ”Well glad ya know what I want cause I dunno what in the diyu I need. I dunno about a passenger though. I think I need someone I can be friends with too. Can’t work unless I can be silly and talk with em too.” One thing about his parents is they had been friends long before marriage. That’s what he wanted with someone. Problem was his friends were all crew members on here. And intership relationships were always sticky.
Toni really was Owen’s best friend. Sure he had a close guy pal growing up but he knew he could talk to Toni about different things plus be goofy with her. She probably knew the most about him and his past. Which is why she’d be the best judge of who he dated later on. He didn’t cry or anything, but when sad he would become seriously angry. Toni had a way of calming him down. It took a bit to let her in that far, but the soothing nature she possessed really helped him out when he needed it most. There had been only a few occasions which it warranted her to do that for him, but it had bonded them. Usually when a bit too drunk and thinking of his father’s death.
Chuckling, he moved his arms out as if to hide himself but in a light manner. ”No not the tools! I don’t want grease stains! We all know you can't hit that hard.” His tongue stuck out before his laughter subsided. The fact she was leaving her little hole was always a shock to him. ”It’s warm in here? I still need a sweater to stay comfortable.” Most men had body temperatures that ran high. His really didn’t that much. Maybe because he spent so much in this tin can of a ship. Owen was just more often cold then feeling hot. ”I’ll walk with you. Could probably have some noodles or rice myself.”
Taking up a stride beside here, he flung the metal bit back over his shoulder to land back in the engine room. ”Um in a couple days time I think? Colonel knows of a job and we’re gettin’ that new girl. Could probably grab some stuff before we all be bad guys.” He didn’t know the finer points of the job, but he knew that it was possibly a collaberative effort with Serenity. Kind of weird to think that ship was still flying around. you’d think after all the attention they got, they’d cool their engine. Apparently not though. ”What going to buy some foofaraw of a dress? Show that you actually are a girl and not an engine monkey.” Toni was very much a tomboy but that was a part of her charm.

Toni chuckled and rolled her eyes, muttering something about how she could kick his arse if she wanted to. She sighed and rubbed her hands on her jumpsuit, hoping to at least look a bit decent since she was wondering out into 'public'. Although the food that they had in the cubboard would probably taste better with a bit of grease on it. She really needed to get some actual food when they stopped off planetside. When it came down to doing a job, she tended to stay away unless it included some sort of mechanical device. Her father was looking for her so it was best not to show her face too much and besides, she was smart as any other (or more so even) but when it came down to diabolical schemes... she wasn't very helpful.
It had been awhile since she'd first met Owen and honestly she could say at first... she hated him. He seemed too serious and a sleaze or something. She was pretty sure he could have any girl he wanted and he came across as a guy who knew it too. As luck would have it, he was not as bad as he seemed. They didn't click right away, she was pretty sure he only bugged her out of boredom but it was more of a sweet gesture than a annoying one.
A few times she'd come across him as drunk and upset or angry and... she worked her magic and helped him feel better. Then they just started hanging out all the time or whenever she wasn't busy or he was bored. Unfortunately for her, at one point or another while she knew he was off flirting with other girls each time they stopped at port, she'd felt a twang of something in her chest. It took her awhile to figure out what was wrong. Jealousy. She'd fallen for her best friend. She swore to herself she'd never let him know or ruin their friendship and so vowed to help him find love so she could move on.
"Rice sounds pretty good right now.. you think we got any meat to put in it though? I wanna actually fill my belly for once..."She hummed softly and wandered from the engine room, her own personal sanctuary. The halls were empty and quiet so it made her wonder what time it was. Did she really loose track time again?
"Maybe I'll run into the Colonel and find out some more from him. Cause if we're only there for a short period of time I gotta know so I don't get left there." She giggled and sighed, wondering if she should go with them, that way she wouldn't be nabbed either. "Haha. You're so funny. No I just wanna get some more jeans and t-shirts. Cheap ones since I go through them so quick. I already got some frufru dresses hidden away for special occassions and no you can't see them." She grinned and stuck her tongue out at him teasingly.

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. Owen shook his head. ”Unless there’s some dehydrated stuff in the back of the cupboards, I ain’t see anything.” He had simple tastes so he didn’t care so much about if here was meat or not around. He could eat rice or noodles with protein if it came down to it. Living out on the Rim he had to deal with that. Sure his mother had grown vegetables but they weren’t great and protein substituted a lot of things. ”We gotta figure out gettin’ more meats. Get ‘em instead of fresh veggies.” Those only lasted a week or so but people still liked to buy them. Owen himself bought jerky or diced dehydrated meats. When he could afford it that is.
Putting one hand in his pocket, the other scratched at his chin. ”Well I may help out if Colonel wants. Other then that I stay outta things.” Owen only helped out when asked. Lately it’s been a bit more since Toni and the pilot usually stayed behind. They were needed for quick get-aways. ”I dunno this sounds like a big job. Heard talk they may team up with Reynolds.” That meant split bounty with thinned out funds. They’d have to figure out another job right after if the bounty was good. Didn’t both Owen because he never really got much from a bounty unless it was very large. His parts went to his fare so he never dwelled too much. If he needed something, he could approach the Colonel about money but it hadn’t come to that yet.
Clapping his hands, Owen moved to walk backwards in front of her. ”No I have to see them! Let me guess from living with your dad? Oh I’ll find the photos.” Toni in something fancier then a sundress? That had to be a sight. Considering he saw her with plain clothes and grease more often then anything. As they reached the kitchen, he faced forward again and leaned against the counter. ”I should grab some clothes soon. May just have ma’ send all my old stuff. Just gotta figure out where.” Owen had a lot of things back home still. When he left he just packed a couple bags and went out the door. His wardrobe was looking a little threadbare and he wasn’t one to blow money on new clothes. He was a simpleton when it came to those things. ”Well if I don’t gotta rush off to the job I’ll keep ya’ company. Got a feelin’ I don’t have time to meet anyone.” AKA find someone to get into bed with.
When it came to people’s feelings, he was dense. Toni hid things well but he really had no clue about what she felt. One giant flaw is sometimes he read the wrong emotions. Anger and fear? He could recognize very easily. Everything else was a challenge for him. Too touchy feely and he shut down quicker then a full burn out. With his father a veteran of the war, some feelings were held off. Owen knew that his father loved his mother and showed that, but there were never deep discussions between them. More often then not his father’s face was like stone and hard to read. Owen was trying to break out of that slowly because if it came down to him wanting to find a girl, he couldn’t be a jackass all the time.

Toni mumbled to herself as she opened each cupboard door, stared inside it for a second before moving onto the next one. She seemed to be thinking hard, almost as hard as she did in her engine room. Her mother had taught her to cook a long time ago when her father got her into machinery. It was an attempt to make her a good wife in at least one way. Strangely enough she loved it almost as much as she loved taking apart things and putting them back together. She wasn't half bad at it either. She pulled a few colorful things out and set them out on the corner, trying to figure out the best way to make dehydrated food taste good. It was a challenge and she did love a good challenge.
She sighed and smiled at him, having listened the whole time but was only now just responding. "I think I can work with this stuff. You gotta put together your own thing or should I make something for you too?" She teased and stuck her tongue out at him. Humming softly started opening the boxes and cans. "Well it'll be nice not to work alone. Serenity has been doing this kinda stuff longer. Must be twice the risk if they're gettin' involved. I wonder if this mission is for Fox or if they heard about it from another..." she shrugged and sighed, hoping he didn't get involved with the crime, she always tended to worry about him when that happened.
Dumping a couple things in a pan she went about heating it up, twisting knobs and muttering to herself again for a minute before she joined him at the counter, pulling up a seat for herself. "Haha. You can't see any pictures thank you very much. You'll just make fun of me. Although I am pretty darn cute after a shower y'know." She was half kidding and half... curious as to what he'd say.
"Don't bother your mom with sending stuff. Its not easy to find a renegade ship for mail y'know. I'll just get you some things. No big deal I have some extra cash." Actually she stole a ton of it from her parents' accounts before running off. But since she was paid to work on the ship its not like her cash was disappearing quick enough. Plus its not like everyday Steamhardt was docked at port so she really didn't have time to spend it. So why not help out a friend or ... crush in need? "Plus while we're shopping you might find your one true love!" She teased and tossed a wrapper at him. He was so dense sometimes though. Did he really not know about her feelings? Did he ignore them like she tried to to save their friendship? Was she just too young and immature for him? She had so many questions she just... couldn't ask him.

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. Leaning back in the chair, Owen tucked his hands behind his head. ”You can cook for me if you want. It is a woman’s job.” His tone was teasing but he tried to keep his face serious. In seriousness though he hardly felt hungry anymore. Perhaps because when in the air like this he hardly moved around so there was no time to get hungry. ”I don’t care. I could eat but it won’t change my life if I wait.” it was just nice that Toni actually left the engine room. Sometime he almost forgot he had a best friend on board when she just disappeared like so. But Owen understood when she got focused, there was no breaking her from her trance of thoughts.
As he watched her move around, he was reminded of home for a moment. Owen used to love sitting in the kitchen while his mom cooked and just watching her. His own skills were fairly awful so he enjoyed seeing what it is that made others good cooks. Even if it was nothing special just not being numb with following directions. Then again, Owen just enjoyed to watch people in general when he was bored. Not like there was much to do up in the black. He wasn’t a big reader and there was only so many times you could watch the same captures he had recorded. ”But I need something new up here! Seeing you in a frilly dress would make things more amusing for me.” Closing his eyes, Owen felt exhaustion creep along him. He really needed something to help him sleep better. Pushing up, he moved to boil water to make a cup of the instant crap they called coffee.
Once the tin kettle was on the stove, he moved to make room for Toni who was cooking. Leaning forward, he took a loud whiff to show he was mocking her. ”Do you even remember what that is? I can show you how to use soap. It’d be lots of fun scrubbing you down.” Again with Owen’s playful winks. There was just plenty of fun to be had between them. Maybe if he allowed himself to cross those lines which he drew with people he cohabitated with there could be more. But being a purely physical guy he was afraid to cross those kinds of lines. When would things move from physical to emotional? Could he handle it or would he just run like when he was bored with someplace. Those thoughts and Toni’s suggestion turned his face to stone. Clenching his jaw, he shook his head. ”No there’s no need for ya to waste your money on me when I have perfectly good clothes sittin’ around.”
Owen didn’t get frustrated with Toni often but whenever she made comments about buying him things he did. Mostly because it made him uneasy. Owen wasn’t used to anyone spending money on him and the fact she acted like it didn’t matter made it worse. He knew about her past and that she had the credits but that didn’t mean she should blow them on him. ”Use it for yourself. Get more bikini tops.” The water in the kettle was slowly starting to boil as his fidgety fingers tapped the counter. ”I don’t think my true love rest on the core. Sorry but she’s gotta be rough around the edges.”

Toni ignored most of his teasing, focused solely on cooking him a excellent meal. It seemed like everything she did nowadays revolved around trying to impress him. But alas every day seemed to pass and she didn't feel any closer to his dream girl. A small sigh escaped her and she quickly jumped into her normal teasing manner in an attempt to disguise and forget her depression. It always seemed to try and creep up on her at the most inopportune times.
"Funny how a man like you can't decide if he wants to see me in frilly clothes or without them. Sir you are a pervert and nothing in the 'verse can change that. Tis a disease." She teased and poked his nose with the end of her wooden spoon, smearing whatever concoction she was making on the tip of it, grinning. "How's it taste? Or rather smell so far?"
Oh god he was so cute sometimes. She felt the depression creeping up again and she bit back the sigh this time and turned back to her cooking so as not to burn anything. It was starting to smell pretty good. They were never going to be together, he showed no special feelings to her, she really had to get over this crush and move on.
"Fiiiiinnnnneeeee...." She whined, feeling a smile creep on her face, knowing she'd buy him /something/ even if he didn't want her to. It'd be a present, he could suck it up and accept it. "I promise not to spend a lot on anything that may or may not have to do with you." She waited a bit, testing the food and mulling over what she was about to say, wondering if... she was actually going to go ahead and do it.. "I was thinking... maybe I'll... look for a hookup when we're docked..." She paused and glanced at him to see what kind of affect it would have on him and see if she could catch anything on his face.[/blockquote]

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. If Owen wasn’t Owen he might fall for Toni like his mother teased about their perfection for one another. When he could write or wave her that is. But he was so set in stone about never finding love and just going along his life with no set path. There really wasn’t any happiness there, just fooling himself into thinking there was. Someday he’d smarten up. All it took was when and what would make him wake up. a crooked smile formed as he winked over at the petite mechanic. ”Well I’d prefer to see you without clothes but that’d cross lines. I’ll take the frills first.” One day she would actually hit him with a wrench and then he’d be in deep trouble.
Taking in a deep breath he sighed happily. ”you little miss are a close second of a cook to my dear momma. I’m sure you two would get along.” Maybe he’d convince John to make a stop at his home planet then everyone could enjoy a real, home cooked meal. One with fresh vegetables from the garden and meat that once roamed in the backyard. Something many of those Purple Bellies knew nothing about. They hardly worked for their coin and food, making them soft. If it hadn’t been for the sheer numbers of them during the war the Browncoats would’ve won. That his whole family was sure of.
”I swear to God if I find things in my bunk not there before Persephone I will cut them up and throw them like confetti all over the engine room.” Owen hated money spent on him in any way. His clothes were just fine to him. Toni could really get under his skin and just bother him at times. Then other moments she was completely great and he couldn’t be happier that he had her as a friend in his life. He especially had fun squishing her as he called it when he gave her a bear hug. She’d wiggle around and squeal in his arms but he knew she liked it. Guys weren’t like that and he enjoyed just kicking back with some cheap liquor and some cheap jabs. But then other times you just needed a friend on the softer side that you could play with in a gentler, physical manner. A friend like his Toni.
As her whole demeanor changed, Owen leaned back forward and landed all legs of the chairs on the floor. A hook-up? Well she didn’t know the lingo at all. ”First of all, you don’t say you’re lookin’ for a hook-up. Say you’re lookin’ for fun. Also, you’re not the hook-up type. You’re a relationship girl whether ya think ya are or not.” That and it was weird thinking of Toni just docking for some cheap thrills. people expected it from him but not the bubbly girl before him. That was his Toni and if anyone hurt her at all he’d have to find them himself. if the Colonel didn’t hold him back that is. ”If ya’ want it go for it. For now I’m lookin’ forward to some grub and just chillin’ out with you.” Owen just wanted off this subject for the time beaing.

One day she would seriously throw her wrench at him and hopefully clock him in the head and knock some sense into his thick skull but... she had decided awhile back she should probably wait for a medic to be on board before she started chucking heavy metal objects at heads. She shrugged and sat down beside him, picking at her food.
He spoke of his mother so wonderfully and full of love. She wanted to meet the lady who had stuck herself so tightly and snug inside his heart. She needed to learn a thing or two. Plus he spoke so highly of her and only good things. His mother seemed like a sweet lady and even if she was only his best friend, a best friend should get to meet their best friend's family. Perhaps someday when he finally decided to get off the ship and find something new to do. She had to push that thought out of her head. Just thinking of him leaving forever created a deep pain in her chest, one she was sure would take forever to heal over if he decided to leave. But she had to suck it up, she couldn't expect him to stay just for her. There was a big world out there and it called him.
She ignored his threats, knowing if she wanted to get him something, she'd get him something and then cry if she had to to get him to keep it. Yeah it was a dirty trick but she couldn't help it. She wanted to express her feelings for him in /some/ way. She obviously just couldn't come out and tell him. She bit back a sigh, stuffing food into her mouth to make sure it didn't sneak out on her.
Swallowing, she glanced over at him and rolled her eyes, finally deciding to answer. "I didn't mean go out and have sex with a random stranger, like /some/ people do. I meant go and talk to someone, get to know them, go on a date and then maybe if it goes well, screw them at the end of the night. Possibly even go on another date. If it works out... maybe I could invite them on Steamhardt or... tell the Colonel I might want to settle down somewhere... I'm not a manwhore like you sir. I do have some standards. I am the relationship type and I just don't want to be alone for the rest of my life." And since it was going nowhere with him, he shouldn't care right? If someone decided to get in her pants or settle down and make babies with her... right?
She shrugged and changed the subject since he seemed to have moved on. That was a good sign right? Definitely not the reaction she was hoping for but oh well. Beggers can't be choosers. "Well when we dock we can go get some food and you can help me try clothes on, okay? Oh and then I gotta go to the junkyard and find some parts."[/blockquote]

Letting the chef serve herself first, he stood back. Eyes wandered over Toni’s figure. He had seen plenty of her before without full on nudity. Still he wondered what else was under there. His perverse ways at work but he had to keep them in control. Friends with benefits never worked out and he wasn't going to ruin a friendship because his mind got away with him. Following her movements of serving himself and the re-finding his way back to a seat at the table, he plopped down. As Owen bite into the food, he stared over at Toni. She was making almost no sense. A date? That meant having enough time to find someone worth having a proper date with. ”Ok hook ups are meant to be left behind. What you want isn’t a hook up at’all. An’ ya don’t wanna bring ‘em back aroun’ here. If y’all call it quits yer stuck with him until we dock again. It’s why ship side lovin’ isn’t a good idea unless ya know it’d would out.” really sometimes he had to wonder about her. The way she was going about this made him seriously confused. She never talked like this since he had met her. It was kind of weird for him to hear but shouldn’t be seeing as he was the master of the sheets. Well in the sense of love em and leave em sheet master. Owen noticed that Toni did seem to rag on him a lot about how he went about his life.
”It’s not like I got much of a choice. I can’t know in the two days we’re docked if she’s one to bring along for a ride or not. We’re gunna be busy so I don’ think there’ll be much time for a date.” Why was he continuing with this nonsense. It was like the pot calling the kettle black. Owen had no right to say how she should or shouldn’t lead her life. But as her best friend he hoped he could help her out in little ways. Like she did for him. He’d have to keep a close eye on her once they were docked. He was certain of that. Hunched over the table, he slowed down his pace which he ate at. ”Shiny. I think the capt’n will be happy if we take care of domestic things while he meets Mal and the contact.” Then the ball would be rolling. This one sounded dangerous so they may need all hands on deck. Owen might not have to watch over the girl too carefully. ”Ah really. I gotta lug yer bits of junk around that place don’t I?” Owen was often left as the muscle why she picke dout all the pretty parts she needed.
